'A lone Trump-appointed judge in Texas' should not have the ability to block student-loan forgiveness for millions of Americans, says a Democratic lawmaker introducing a bill to stop it from happening again

Rep. Mondaire Jones criticized GOP-appointed judges' abilities to issue nationwide injunctions.

He referred to a Trump-appointed judge blocking student-debt relief for millions of Americans.

His new bill would channel that authority to D.C. courts and the Supreme Court only.

A Democratic lawmaker doesn't think conservative judges should have the power to halt Democratic policies for millions of Americans.

Last week, New York Rep. Mondaire Jones penned an opinion piece criticizing Republican-appointed judges' "unrestrained use of nationwide injunctions" to block Democratic policies. For example, federal Texas Judge Mark Pittman — appointed by former President Donald Trump — ruled President Joe Biden's plan to cancel student debt illegal in November, blocking the relief from reaching millions of Americans until the Supreme Court makes the final ruling on the policy's legality.

Jones said Pittman should not have had that power.

"Although the Biden administration has appealed this ruling, its long-overdue student debt relief program will now, at a minimum, be stalled for many months," Jones wrote. "This begs an important question: How can a lone Trump-appointed judge in Texas, through a single opinion, overturn the Biden administration's meticulously planned executive order in all 50 states?"

They don’t have a problem when some Obama or Biden judge does it.

The State of New York is welcome to provide loan forgiveness to it's residents at it's own expense

Rule of Law? No.
Rule of Men? Yes.

It’s not really a republic anymore. It’s an oligarchy. But they like to call it “our democracy”.

In other words: Rep. Mondaire Jones “It’s okay when a judge from my side does it to the whole nation, but not when a smelly WalMart shopping judge does it???”

The government should not, and does not, have the authority to break legitimate, lawful contracts between two consenting parties of legal age.

...But a lone Obama-appointed judge should have the ability to block any policy that originates from a Republican administration.

LOL!

The anklegrabber got the boot, as you said! :)

Jones sought reelection in 2022 in New York's 10th district instead of the 18th, so as to avoid a heated primary fight with DCCC chair Sean Patrick Maloney, but lost the primary to attorney Dan Goldman.

To make it doubly sweet, Sean Patrick Maloney got aboot up the keester, too.

Why don’t we just split into two nations.

Wouldn't help, because both sides are exactly the same. Both sides are hypocrites, and in many cases both sides are just as "evil" as the other. If one side was made up of just conservatives they'd disagree and fight just as often as the other side.

It's honestly why we have so many problems. No one wants to hear it, but people are exactly the same when it comes to behavior.

"All men are bad, but some of us [few of us, honestly] try real hard to be good."

Well, Mony, these bass tards should pay for their own damn tuition. Nobody forced their asses to go to college. I know a hell of a lot of good people who pay their bills and who don’t have college diplomas. They have excellent, well paying jobs. They pay their own bills. The only difference is, those jobs require the person to work. I can see way you’re a “lawmaker.” You can’t find a real jobs you lazy biatch.
