While Mormons are generally pretty conservative, nowadays they only comprise about 60% of Utah’s population. Utah is, if not the fastest-growing state in the US, at least in the top three. Lots of jobs here so lots of ‘gentiles’ have been moving in.

Interesting fact: Salt Lake City, home base of the LDS church, has had Dem mayors since 1976. Jackie Biskupski was mayor from 2016 to 2020 and she is a lesbian.

You’re right that Utah is not 100% LDS. For a long time it has been leaning Left, but I think most LDS voters see Mitt for the RINO he is. If he is even that. I suspect he votes Left all across the board.

When you're already worth hundreds of millions of dollars, you don't need to sell your vote for money. With that level of wealth, you're more interested in accruing power. Romney is a leftist. Leftists are obsessed with gaining political power.

A friend in Utah whose family has lived there since the 1800s days says Mitt is viewed as a “Super Mormon” - a Mormon who has become famous and rich. Therefore, he must be good.

But...he also says that if Mitt travelled south of Provo, he might never be seen again. There is a lot of desert and almost no one who likes him. But the votes are all in the Wasatch Front. Mittens can win again in his humble opinion.

You haven't studied the man, then. He pretended to be a conservative in MA by mouthing slogans because he knew he wanted to run for president. And yet, socialized medicine passed in MA under his watch, as well as the first gay fake marriage ruling in the country. Catholic institutions in MA were also punished for not enforcing gay- and abortion-friendly rules. Romney stood by and let all of the above happen while mouthing his opposition. He also completely eviscerated the GOP in Massachusetts, leaving it a rudderless party only slightly less Left than the Democrats. That's how he operates. He's either the least effective politician in American history, or he is a double-agent crypto-leftist Republican. There are no other options.
