Conservatives on Twitter hammered NBC News presidential historian Michael Beschloss for a "Soviet"-sounding tweet demanding to know who exactly did not clap for Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his address to Congress on Wednesday.
Zelenskyy traveled to the U.S. on Wednesday, his first trip outside of Ukraine since Russia invaded the country in early 2022. During his trip abroad, Zelensky met with President Joe Biden and addressed a joint session of Congress, seeking continued support U.S. and funding of the war with Russia.
Most members of Congress supported Zelenskyy’s message as he was given a standing ovation for his speech. Although Beschloss seemed very curious about who in Congress may not have been enthusiastic enough about the speech or providing further support for the eastern European leader.

Well Stated !
When are they going to start sporting the spiffy uniforms with the shiny boots?
NBC = No, B!tch. Conform.
Beschloss seems to have gone off the rails some time back.
Their motives are corrupt. The Ukrainians putting it on the line have pure motives, but they are only getting help because the corrupt people helping them stand to benefit from their success and Russia’s defeat. Zelensky is a go-between, and the conflict is not about him, but about the Ukrainian People and Putin. He helps them fight, both by being their spokesman and symbol, and also their head schnorer.
The fact that these a@@-holes are gushing over him is a good thing, because it means weapons on the battlefields and aid for starving and hurting people. But I have very little patience with gush-y people, even where I might agree with them in part. Even so, I will gush for Trump. But that’s a choice based on experience. The gushing over Z is an act by people so phony they don’t know how to not act and pose.
I did note that, thanks again.
Yes, and as you specify, Russia is not the USSR.
Agreed.
Beschloss may not be as great a historian as people think. This has happened with others including Walter Isaacson, Doug Brinkley (re John Kerry), Walter Cronkite, and Stanley Karnow- some were reporters who wrote books about what they covered and have been challenged by many of their peers or people re events they wrote about re accuracy, context, and/or importance.
Moral of the story is that not everything or person is often as accurate/trustworthy or God-like as their friends and promoters claim.
Damn! I wish everyone had your attitude! I've noticed that even longtime FReepers, like so much of America these days, are often lapsing into this dark, humorless Leftist dystopia where Fun is verboten. Talk about playing into the enemy's hands!
Long Live Fun!
It's brutally obvious but, well, see my tagline.
Beschloss is nuts.
The guy employing Soviet tactics is Putin.
Sure. That’s the Democrats’ job. And Zelenskyy is riding that train for now, for the benefit of his people. I keep the too separate, so long as his people are willing to fight for their own freedom and independence. I hope they get it. Then they can vote Zelenskyy out, just as the British did Churchill, so long as we’re comparing historical figures, or keep him for another term. I don’t care.
Putin, once he’s in power, stays in power, and he controls everything. I support their fight against that, just as I support the American people and the Chinese people’s fight against Great Re-set NWO tyranny. I have no money, and would be a liability on any battle field. My only weapon is words. So I use them, at least. They are my pebbles in my slingshot.
“I keep the two separate”
Curse you, spell check.
This is exactly Stalinist, who arrested and dispatched of those who stopped clapping early during his long winded speeches.
You're right in this costing American taxpayers billions, however it is also costing American taxpayers the Constitution, the Courts, the Presidency, the Legislature and the Rule Of Law.
On the other hand, We do have Great Mob Rule!
