One of the worst major coastal flooding events on record — likely near Superstorm Sandy levels — is imminent for parts of the Eastern Seaboard as a soon-to-be bomb cyclone enters the Northeast.
This comes in the absence of blizzard conditions on the warm side of the dangerous winter storm that is walloping the Midwest and Great Lakes as it begins to spread toward the East Coast ahead of the Christmas holiday weekend.
The Fox Forecast Center said windswept rain is expected Friday in the Northeast as powerful winds blast the region with widespread 50-plus-mph wind gusts.
In addition, 60- to 70-mph gusts cannot be ruled out with the passage of the Arctic cold front Friday into Friday night. At least a few scattered power outages are likely, and more widespread outages are possible.
At the coast, strong onshore winds will lead to a significant coastal flood event along south-facing coasts, especially with the Friday morning high tide.
Flood levels are forecast to be among the top 10, and in some cases the top five, on record along the south shore of Long Island, the Jersey Shore and the Connecticut coast.

i drove through an area after superstorm sandy (Which dropped a tree on our house- had to replace a section of hte roof- thankfully noone was hurt) and i was in the mountains where a small stream to the right of the road- about 40 feet down, rose up over the road and woudl have submerged any cars o n the road totally- a fella put the waterline on his retaining wall, and it was like 8 feet high- That stream, 40 feet below the road rose almost 50 feet- the road was just starting to drop down to the town down below the mountain, which was really devastated badly- it was a wicked storm-
I drove aroudn our town, and wow- trees down everywhere- roads washed out- Even the throughway got washed out in one spot- huge crater- was quite a mess-
It’s the BOMB! Oh noes. Just bull crap to scare and control people. Go about your lives people and stop huddling in corners pissing your pants and hyperventilating in your masks. Get a backbone.

So called “Superstorm Sandy” was a fairly average Category 2 Hurricane. It caused massive damage because it hit a densely developed area of the coast.
Global Warming/Cooling! It’s coming from all directions!
“We’re getting hundred year weather events every ten years.” /Schumer”
Happens all the time. A hundred year even doesn’t mean it only happens every 100 years. It refers only to probability.
When I lived within 100 feet of the Colorado River we had a
“100 year” runoff one spring. The next year we had a “500 year” runoff. House stayed dry both times fortunately.
Where was this? What part of the country?
Yes, Elliot
Absolutely. I remember the women who were at home and ran all the institutions in town. Ptas library church fire auxiliaries
Millions of dollars of labor and work were given by these volunteers and the added benefit of making these town safe high trust zones.
I had a flood plain map that had water on the second floor of a building that sat on the edge of a chasm 50 feet deep...Had no trouble telling "the Mappers" they were dead wrong.
north east - the storm walloped the coast and in land quite a ways
When you get it echoing through “The View” and “”Morning Joe,” all context is lost.
Actual NWS forecast discussions don’t seem so alarmist.

AMEN!
The one that went up the CT River and hit VT?
Right. It is a sensationalist article designed to get clicks.
