Ukraine Can Win the War. But the Cost May Be Too High for the West.
The Wall Street Journal ^ | Dec. 11, 2022 | Daniel Michaels

Ukrainian leaders have vowed to retake all territory occupied by Russia, prompting a debate over what would be necessary for Ukraine to win and evict Moscow’s forces.

The answer is primarily military because Russia is only going to abandon its hard-won gains if its troops suffer catastrophic losses, military strategists say. Behind those talks about weapons and ammunition is a deeper political question as Ukraine’s battlefield fortunes rely heavily on the willingness of Western governments to continue their multibillion-dollar military assistance to Kyiv.

And pushing Russian forces out of the entrenched positions they hold in more than 15% of Ukraine’s territory will require an even greater flow of military support—possibly more than the West is willing and able to bear.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken told The Wall Street Journal last Monday that the U.S. would support Kyiv in recovering territory Russia has grabbed since launching its large-scale invasion on Feb. 24, suggesting that Washington might not back Ukraine militarily in retaking areas that Russia seized in 2014, including the Crimean Peninsula.

But the Cost May Be Too High for the West.

We must be willing to sacrifice every Ukrainian, and if necessary, tens of thousands of the children of Americans in flyover country, to confront Russia for the glory of the deep-state and globohomo - said every neocon in Washington

As opposed to what? Losing the war? Letting Russia have the natural resources of Ukraine? Those natural resources are valued #4 in the world!

You let Russia have those and suddenly Russia has an even larger monopoly control over energy and gas for Europe than they had before.

They’ll also have steel and weapons factories that you wouldn’t want to have in the hands of an aggressor country.

And they will also have major control of grain markets in Europe.

If you think this war is expensive, lose it and see how much the next one costs!!!

This war is cheap. It’s not costing any American lives. We’re drawing support from the whole world. And we’re spending 2.6% of our annual budget, to have the world’s second largest army beat down.

It’s important that we defend the principles embodied by the UN that countries don’t invade and take their neighbor’s land. If you don’t defend this, you will have aggressor states starting wars all over the world. And then what? Are we going to fight all those wars, are wait until the aggressors get so big they pick fights with us?

Learn from WWI and WWII.

There is NO Price in taxpayer and future taxpayer money to high for the US politicians to pay to continue their money laundering operations.

They don’t care if they bankrupt the country, leave us weaponless and potentially push us into nuclear war to make sure their gravy train of corruption continues.

They consider us peasants fortunate they haven’t sent massive numbers of American troops to die for Zelensky and their percentage of the take.

Obviously Ukraine can’t win the war.

What exactly is the West protecting?

No price is too high to protect the Dem/progressive/WEF/UN/globalists/Mil Weapons/Joe’s 10%/money-laundering/gain-of-function war. Spit.

Get a grip. Russia has zero interest in Ukraine's resources. That's not why they're fighting this war. Russia has plenty of resources for hundreds of years, in fact, too many resources. They don't have the population to harness those resources. They have a people problem, not a natural resource problem.

In order for Ukraine to win back their lost territories, Ukraine needs at least 100,000 US/NATO troops to fight the Russians in Ukraine. This is the neocon dream, but unwillingness to deploy those troops is their obstacle. That's the point of this article.

The ruble is trading at a 4yr high and Vlad is receiving times prices for his oil and gas vs 4yrs ago. His entire existence is based on the value of the ruble and oil/gas prices. That all equals Ukraine winning to Team Narrative.

This while the US economy is floundering in part due to sanctions that are obv helping him and not hurting him.

I’m reminded of the Who song-Won’t Get Fooled Again.
PS The EU sabotaged their own energy capacity, their own food supplies and have completely and totally decimated their defense budgets in favor of social spending-why should we be on the hook?

What benefit does the US get from those resources?

If they are so valuable, the ukrainians should have properly armed, trained and funded their army.

Not like Russia invading was a surprise to anyone.

We’re bankrupting the US to launder money via Ukraine. I do not see a benefit to doing this.

Fck every treasonous Kremlin bootlicking Putinbitch in the West.

I can't believe you get paid to write comments like this. Deep state troll farms must be on their 7th or 8th mobilization and scraping the bottom of the barrel.

This is what I’ve always said. Putin will not be driven out because the West doesn’t want to pay for what it would take. This war will end in a settlement that neither the Ukes nor the Russians will like. But there isn’t an alternative.

Yeah, you're right! That 14-year-old hussy deserved to be gang-r*ped! After all, she should have known better than to wear a dress that showed ankle, and she should have known karate!

Seriously: Why are you excusing Russia?

How many tanks did the Ukrainian Armed Forces lose in Bakhmut?

According to the Military Chronicle, from the end of August to the beginning of December, the 54th and 59th brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine could irretrievably lose about six to eight tank companies in Bakhmut (Artyomovsk)—from 84 to 112 vehicles. The equipment remaining in service with the Ukrainian forces in Bakhmut is on the verge of failure.

Most of the T-64, T-64BV, and Polish T-72M1 tanks were lost by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the battles in the north of the city in the Podgorodny area and during several counterattacks in the south in the area of Kurdyumovka, Zelenopolye, and Ozaryanovka. Tanks were also lost in the battles near Opytny, where Ukrainian forces tried to stop the advance of the RF Armed Forces but retreated due to high losses. Interruptions in electricity and a lack of spare parts prevent quick repairs of equipment.

Almost all vehicles have high gun wear, and the crews of Ukrainian Armed Forces tanks regularly encounter bursts of ammunition in the gun breech, after which the vehicle is put out of action. The activity of the artillery of Wagner PMC and the RF Armed Forces also led to high losses of tanks: when a platoon (or company) of tanks is detected, heavy artillery fire of high density opens on armoured vehicles, which does not allow the equipment to manoeuvre and fire.

There are also tactical errors. Short daylight hours limit the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in observation and reconnaissance using UAVs, and cold weather forces them to keep vehicles with running engines, which strongly unmasks them and makes them a target for sabotage groups of the RF Armed Forces with Kornet anti-tank systems and Irony surveillance devices that detect enemy equipment in the dark at a distance of 7 km.

The Cost cannot be too high because the ruling class here doesn’t care what happens to the workers and US Citizens.

They just don’t care. If that’s not clear by now don’t look for any lightbulbs to ever go on/off.

🇵🇱 🎤Polish rock musician Jakub Sienkiewicz has received a mobilisation order.

The people of Poland have begun to suspect that their authorities are preparing the country for war with a nuclear-armed Russia, which is superior in strength.

The summons has caused a public outcry, as it is becoming clear that the number of people to be mobilised will differ from the figures declared by the authorities.

Ukraine needs at least 100,000 US/NATO troops to fight the Russians in Ukraine.

Note to self: probably far more than 100,000 US/NATO troops are required. Estimates show 200,000 Ukrainian forces currently on ground and 400,000-500,000 Russian troops inside or staged outside Ukraine.
