Watch Live: House Jan. 6 committee to vote on criminal referrals, final report at last meeting

Washington — The House Jan. 6 committee is holding what is expected to be its final meeting on Monday, when members will vote on formally adopting the committee's final report and possible criminal referrals to the Justice Department.

The proceedings mark the culmination of the panel's nearly 18-month-long investigation into the attack on the U.S. Capitol, which featured testimony from dozens of witnesses and a series of high-profile hearings that examined the assault and former President Donald Trump's role in stoking his supporters to storm the building.

The committee is expected to make criminal referrals to the Justice Department for potential prosecution, although the members have not confirmed who they will refer.

Referrals by Congress are solely recommendations, and the Justice Department is under no obligation to bring charges against those referred for prosecution. Still, the committee's referrals could increase political pressure on the department to act, and lawmakers could unveil new evidence in their final report that federal prosecutors have not yet accessed.

Thank you!! Exactly ! ‘...when should a President not stand tall...’.

Trump had/has the courage that MANY in the GOP have lacked for a long, long time and, imho, that’s why we have people in power who are vested in self interest vs what’s good for our great country!

The rally had already been planned. Alex Jones and others had organized it. Trump then announced he would speak at the event. He knew what was being planned. That’s why he showed up late, keeping most of the people away from the capitol while things were already starting to unfold there. And yet the Democrats still claim he’s responsible for the riots. And so do idiots like yourself.

And that's why I believe Trump was foolish to do his rally in a city controlled by deep state.

And your Monday morning quarterbacking serves what purpose?

I agree with J. Turley’s comments on FNC a few minutes ago. He doesn’t believe there is enough for a case against Trump, based on the J6 Committee referrals. He thinks the Smith (special counsel) findings could have more weight with DOJ. Also, Smith can go anywhere with his investigation-Monica L. Comes to mind.

But he will still vote for every Democrat on the ballot in 24.

“Part of me doesn’t feel sympathy for Trump. He chose to hold a rally in a town owned lock stock and Harrell by Dems and Deep State, where antifa has a history of terrorizing Trump supporters.”

Your comments have all the hallmarks of concern trolling. The attempt at excusing the left’s framing of Trump while trying to sound reasonable (e.g. “part of me doesn’t feel sympathy for Trump”). Let’s face it. None of you feels sympathy for Trump. You follow up that statement with an anti-antifa comment designed to show that you’re one of the good guys. But you believe Trump deserves what’s happening because he was foolish. By that line of argument I guess you believe all those wrongly arrested that day also deserve it because they were foolish enough to show up that day.

To make us reconsider the wisdom of supporting Trump in 24 when in hindsight his hubris allowed him to be owned by the "Swamp", up to and including this sham 06 Jan committee.

Very likely...Turley is probably jockeying for the Dershowitz seat as America's preeminent political legal beagle.

So we should allow our politicians to “choose” who is allowed to run and when we don't, we should allow them to do everything they did to Trump? Imagine the whole of the government ignoring a Democrat President's directives. Oh that's right, it would never happen because no one dare run under their party that isn't an insider. Hubris would actually be believing the Democrats and RINOs wouldn't do this to whoever else made it past their blockade.

I’m a 25 year Air Force Veteran that struggles each day as to whether not I’m going to raise my United Staes Flag in my front yard. This country is pathetic.

Of course not, but I believe Trump's ego got the better of him went along with McConnell and Pelosi, etc thinking he was outsmart them at the negotiation table when in reality he brought the proverbial "knife to a gun fight".

He should have exposed everything and declassified all of the evidence he had about the previous administration spying on him before the midterms of his term.

There is a saying, "if you are going to assassinate the King, you better get it right".

Trump failed to eliminate the Deep State when he had an opportunity, and it increasingly looks like his hubris was the primary reason for this failure.

It was not FOOLISH from Trump’s viewpoint. His goal was to lure large numbers of his core supporters to pressure Pence to cancel the turnover of administration. Without his crowd in DC the insurrection never would have gotten off the ground. He knew what he wanted, he just didn’t know how it would turn out. What has surprised me is the large number of former employees and supporters who decided to tell exactly what they saw during those critical days.

I saw a clip on it on the news last night. A slew of leftist democrats and sitting right in the middle of them with a pronounced smug look on her face was LIZ CHANEY. FF9-B1197-DC39-4-AA9-8651-B6-ADE2-ED8642
