Speaking as a guest in a debate on Russian state TV, Konstantin Sivkov, who is a military expert, says war with NATO might begin as soon as the spring of 2023 and according to him Russia must start preparations.

The clip of Sivkov’s commentary was posted by an advisor of Ukraine’s Internal Affairs Minister on Twitter, Newsweek reports.

Sivkov says Russia must prepare missiles for the impending war with NATO:

We need to produce more powerful and modern weapon systems, given the inevitability of a clash with NATO in the near future.

Sivkov also suggests there will be a war because Poland is on the verge of attacking the Russian province of Kaliningrad, which is a standalone territory of Russia sandwiched between Poland and Germany:

New from Moon of Alabama.

Ukraine - What Its Military Leadership Says

The Economist has interviewed the three Ukrainian leaders who manage the war in Ukraine. It summarizes them in an interpretive writeup. I will use that to extract the important points.

No war with NATO is a real possibility. It is being made known that the Russian GDP marginally exceeds the GDP of the State Of Ohio and is actually less than the State of Texas.

Russia is but a mediocre nation. Russia lacks the resources to militarily defeat Ukraine much less NATO.

A close examination of Russia and especially the Russian military is that at present, there is no there there

Total insanity. The losing side will start throwing nukes as they have nothing to lose. It would start with tactical nukes from Russia as they would lose a conventional war.

We would respond, and soon it would be all out nuclear war.

Yeah, when you count Netflix as having more dollar value than Russian gas and oil production.

LOL

Presently, Russia has very little oil and gas revenue. The deliveries are curtailed for inadequate transport.

Germany Unleashed Half-Trillion Dollar ‘Energy Bazooka’ To Keep Lights On

https://www.zerohedge.com/commodities/germany-unleashed-half-trillion-dollar-energy-bazooka-keep-lights

Western sanctions on Moscow have backfired, failed to paralyze Russia’s economy, and ultimately sparked financial pain for ordinary Europeans and the largest economy in the block.

>>>> !!! >>>According to Reuters calculations, Germany has hemorrhaged cash to the tune of 440 billion euros ($465 billion) in energy bailouts and schemes, as well as keeping energy supplies flowing while it lost access to inexpensive natural gas from its leading supplier Russia in 2022. <<< !!! <<<<

“How severe this crisis will be and how long it will last greatly depends on how the energy crisis will develop,” said Michael Groemling at the German Economic Institute (IW). He added: “The national economy as a whole is facing a huge loss of wealth.”

Reuters said the “cumulative scale” of energy bailouts and other schemes employed by Berlin equates to 1.5 billion euros per day since Russia invaded Ukraine, or about 12% of national economic output, or 5,400 euros for each German.

Germany has shown Europe how backfiring sanctions ruin its country’s finances and send millions of its citizens crashing into energy poverty overnight. These anti-Russian measures have caused soaring electricity and NatGas prices and elevated risks of entering a recession in 2023.

Russia’s Oil Revenues Dip As Huge Discounts Offset High Exports
Dec 14, 2022
[Russia’s oil revenues “dipped” while exports increase to new customers, building a new economy not dependent on European customers. Meanwhile, Europe freezes and business close for lack of affordable gas. American LNG costs 6 to 8 times more than Russian pipeline gas.]

https://oilprice.com/Latest-Energy-News/World-News/Russias-Oil-Revenues-Dip-As-Huge-Discounts-Offset-High-Exports.html

Lower oil prices and steeper discounts for Russian oil sent Russia’s oil revenues down in November despite the highest export volumes since April this year, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said on Wednesday.

Last month, total oil exports out of Russia rose by 270,000 barrels per day (bpd) from October to 8.1 million bpd in November, pushed up by higher diesel exports, the IEA said in its closely-watched Oil Market Report for December. Russian diesel exports increased by 300,000 bpd to 1.1 million bpd in November, two months before the EU embargo on seaborne imports of Russian products.

Total Russian exports in November stood at their highest levels since April 2022, the IEA said. However, Russia’s oil export revenues fell by $700 million to $15.8 billion due to wider discounts on Russian crude and lower international crude oil prices, according to the IEA’s estimates.

Russian oil prices saw steeper declines in November. Urals in Northwest Europe fell by nearly $30 per barrel to $43 a barrel by early December, well below the $60 per barrel price cap finally agreed by G7, Australia, and the EU, per IEA assessments.

Russia’s crude oil loadings were essentially little changed in November compared to October, at just over 5 million bpd, as record shipments to India offset lower exports to the European Union. Loadings to the EU dropped by 430,000 bpd to 1.1 million bpd, but exports to India hit a record of 1.3 million bpd, the IEA said.

No war with NATO is a real possibility.

When you have the largest inventory of nuclear weapons in the world, anything is possible.

Have the russians mastered basic truck maintenance yet? They should probably nail that down before they move on to really ambitious stuff.

They’re down to using WW2-era armor, buying drones from Iran, and artillery ammo from North Korea. I think it’ll be a short war.

Something that cannot have slipped the minds of Chinese planners is that a militarily prostrate Russia will be easy pickings.

Having and suicidally vindictively using nukes are different kettles of fish

There is no reason for attacking NATO. The war in Ukraine is to replace the geographical buffer that Ukraine provides against invaders. The Russian planners are still worrying about Napolean.

Russian defense doctrine requires the geographical buffer that is no longer possible

“It would start with tactical nukes from Russia as they would lose a conventional war.”

More likely the other way around, since we’ve disposed of most of our conventional weapons in Ukraine and it will be 3 years before significant quantities are replaced (and then only if China is in a good mood).
