Power outages across Wisconsin affect thousands of residents after heavy snowfall

Outages could last into Friday morning in northern parts of the state
By Rich Kremer
Published:

Tens of thousands of residents in northern Wisconsin were without power Thursday morning after a winter storm dropped more than a foot of heavy, wet snow in some areas.

Xcel Energy reported more than 30,000 customers were without power in northwestern Wisconsin as of 8 a.m.

Xcell spokesperson Chris Oullette said the snow caused extensive damage to trees, poles and power lines — with the biggest outages near Rice Lake and Hayward. The company is sending caravans of plows and utility trucks to remote areas and workers on the ground said outages could stretch into Friday.

Wisconsin Public Service reported more than 9,000 customers without power in northern Wisconsin as of 10 a.m.

We Energies also reported around 1,000 customers without power this morning in areas near Milwaukee, Green Bay and far northeastern Wisconsin.

The article reports a total of 40,000 customers. I would expect a utilities customer would be an address. If that is correct, there would be about 100,000 people without power in Northern Wisconsin today.

I have relatives in the area. They confirm 9.5 inches of heavy, wet snow has caused numerous tree branches to break and impact power lines. They are out of power, and expect crews to take at least a day to restore power.

They should charge up their cars and drive to someplace that does have electricity.

Tey voted for Biden’s insane energy policies. I wish those who voted for Trump would get cheap heat, but they would only use that to make sure that Trump voters freeze to death.

It all depends where on the circuit one is for the power to come back on.

It’s a Green New Deal Simulation.

Call your Congress Critters to object if your experience is unacceptable.

Break out the solar panels. Lots of sun during a snow storm in northern Wisconsin. Then fire up the heater in your EV to get warm and charge up the cell phone.

Then send a thank you card to biden.

It is going to take a couple of days to clear the snow from all of those solar panels!

Keep in mind that I would expect NORTHERN WISCONSIN, like most other RURAL areas probably voted for Trump/Republicans.
However, they get outvoted by all the people in Milwaukee & Madison.

I bought a portable Mr. Buddy propane heater for cold weather camping. But now I have an adapter to attach it to a standard 20 gallon propane canister (the kind you use for your gas grill) and always have 3 20 gallon canisters on hand. That’s good for a couple of weeks. Just enough time to chop a bunch of wood.

Heavy wet snow is amazingly difficult to shovel. Wait till it freezes! Nightmare!

Northern WI is basically Trump country...except for the filth in the northwest corner (Superior/Bayfield).

Heavy and wet will do that.

Trees can only take so much weight.
