To commemorate the 81st anniversary, here’s a look back at a collection of Associated Press photos of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.

“Criticism began within days of the obliteration of the two Japanese cities. On August 8, 1945, two days after the destruction of Hiroshima, former President Herbert Hoover wrote, “The use of the atomic bomb, with its indiscriminate killing of women and children, revolts my soul.””
The alternative US landings on the Japanese home islands, which would have killed millions of Japanese and Americans, would have revolted Herbie’s soul even more.
I’m curious if the US Government allowed AP to publish these photos at the time.
There might be intelligence value to Japan, for example confirming targets were hit, or what ships were destroyed.

This is how we shamelessly justify our behavior and self appointed role of World Police, going so far as to insist it is “exceptional”. Actually it is exceptional because no other country has ever done such a thing.

War is hell, and as General Curtis LeMay said, it is your duty to end it as soon as possible.
Tell of your revulsion to the hundreds of thousands of sailors, soldiers, marines, and airmen who were preparing for the invasion of mainland Japan.
And how could President Truman have justified that operation when he had the means at hand to end the war with minimum loss of American lives?
And finally, the use of the bombs saved untold countless Japanese lives too.

Ah, so that explains why it took so long for the Japs to surrender after the first bomb was dropped ... or after the second bomb was dropped ... or why there was an attempted coup by the Japanese military to keep the Emperor from announcing a surrender ...

I’ve got news for you. Japan is an island, 6000 miles from the US. A naval blockade would have sufficed. But you go right ahead and pat yourself on the back.
Democrats learned from Pearl Harbor...are using much more subtle methods to destroy the country.

If this were true, then why didn’t the Japs surrender after one atom bomb was dropped on August 6th? Hmm? August 7th, no surrender. August 8th no surrender. Why did they not surrender, please explain.
It took a second bomb three days later to force them to surrender.
The attack on Pearl Harbor, the Bataan death march and other Japanese atrocities all played a part in their decision.

I’m not going to argue with you people any longer. This is a dogma ingrained in your heads that the US can do no wrong and has never done anything wrong, going so far as to justify atrocities. I used to think the same way.
All the “experts” forget one VERY IMPORTANT THING..Stalin's armies were on their way and advancing extremely fast.
We did not end it right then and there, we would have had to deal with a communist Japan.
As per those bombings. The result was way less than what would have happened if it had not. I do question the second bomb though. That one seemed to be another test for the oh so great scientists to see the effects.
Zero articles even highlighted on the West Coast.
So maybe, Pearl Harbor is more evil white racist B$!!
