Yep - ridiculous paper work and phone calls and emails and snail mail - call us wait on the phone for 1 hour for IRS and if you don’t we garnish your paycheck, bank account, zelle account, venmo account, etc...
And six years after that the IRS will be back on the same issue.
Then they will ignore any documentation you have in favor of stabbing you in the butt...again
Going to cause a lot of grief and pushback, and maybe that will be enough to change the regulations again.

My understanding is this doesn’t count money sent to “friends and family”, only “goods and services” type transactions. Am I correct? Still seems like a mess waiting to happen

I applaud those who successfully deprive the Deep State of a portion of their hard won income. Once the thieves in DC skim the cream they’re just going to spend what’s left to crush the productive elements of society.
It is already a nightmare and about to get a whole lot worse.
My son owed $1500 in taxes about 5 years ago. He worked out a payment plan, paid it off over a year, has documents, cancelled checks and even a statement from the IRS it was paid in full. He STILL gets a notice a few times a year with more and more penalties tacked on to this bill. He has to spend hours with agents, it takes weeks, he ends up sending all the paperwork in again, and again, and again. It is never resolved. He has tried to go up the chain of management, he has tried contacting his reps.
Some of the people on this thread are clueless concerning what a nightmare this will be.
Dems claim they are going after billionaires.
In the end, they target thr little guy.

That Bidet&Co BS of “people who make over $400,000” was total crap; as you said, they’re after the Middle Class — us. Instead of funding 87,000 new IRS Agents, why not fund 50,000 new Border Patrol Agents, and seal the border.
That’s my perception as well, but if I used it at all, I’d make sure I had all cancelled receipts and paperwork in order.
If contacted by the IRS, I will tell them to pound sand. When I have income I will let them know, which means NEVER. When I worked I got wages, they are not income. Income is an increase in valuation. Say I bought stock at $1,000, and in a few years I sell it for $10,000, that would be income. If we would all just raise a middle finger toast to the IRS, they would melt away. Except for idiots who thing that them trading their life force away for an equal amount agreed upon funds is income. It is a no gain situation, it benefits both, and is not an increase from $0 to $50000. If it was, you should be able to deduct every expense from housing, to teeth cleaning.
Ebay already does at the old 20k threshold...now it’s 600.
So yeah...expect 1099’s

I knew older people who would write a 5 page personal letter to the IRS.
In truth, there are no people with knowledge or common sense at IRS anymore. They just do what the computer tells them.
Same rules apply as any other business so long as u have receipts. And that’s the rub...they have instituted a massive cost on little people to maintain minute records OR pay the taxes owed.
