Fear of lawsuits may help stop the mutilation craze. Some Congressional Republicans have introduced the "The Protecting Minors from Medical Malpractice Act". Universities that screw up students cannot be sued, but they can be defunded. From the article: "the idea that she might not actually be a woman didn’t occur to Camille until she enrolled at Portland State University, where she minored in gender studies and was introduced to alternative views about sex and gender."

Good luck with that. I think the case would be stronger suing her parents.

This is why trans-kids have maybe 2-3 more years until you never see them again - lawsuits. This woman will probably lose her lawsuit, but when kids that were operated on or given hormones under the age of 18 begin suing as adults, there’s not a judge out there that wouldn’t grant punitive damages.
Multiply that by all the former trans kids hunted down by liability lawyers and doctors and therapists will simply stop providing services to non-adults.

A real serious student there! She deserves to have her student loans forgiven!
When does the crazy stop?

Yes. Right now the profit incentive to mutilate children and mentally troubled adults overwhelms any ethical concerns for far too many doctors and hospitals. Money talks - sue the holy hell out of these doctors and hospitals, and they may finally stop to ask whether the patient is even capable of making rational decisions about removing perfectly healthy body parts.

We need to bring back mental hospitals.
Just don’t hire Nurse Ratched.

Not to be cold or accepting of this, but the surgery happened when she was 30 years old. It was her choice to mutilate her body.
OTOH, all of the gender nonsense happening to children (mental, chemical, physical) needs to punished and punished HARD!

Bingo! The common thread linking every “female-presenting non-binary person” I’ve ever met. They need GOOD mental health care, not a chopmytitsoffame.

What a sad story. You can’t help but sympathize with this poor, confused kid and be very angry at the whole crooked, insane, liberal establishment that urged her to destroy her very femininity.

If the school is completely honest, this would be the easiest course in the world...
XY chromosomes=male
XX chromosomes=female
End of course...

This woman was 30 years old when she had this done. She will have to take responsibility for her own actions and mistakes.
To: karpov
I wish her success, but that’s why you, or your guardian, signed a release before your surgery, er, butchery.

Fear of lawsuits may help stop the mutilation craze. History is replete with examples of oddball/barbaric surgical interventions to treat mental illness, under the guise of "science" - from bloodletting, to trepanning, to electro-shock, to lobotomy
"Gender affirmation surgery" is just another false and dangerous fad which will soon be revealed as such. At that point - doctors who do it should be prepared for a strong and well-deserved backlash - financial and otherwise.

She is at least the second American who has filed a lawsuit.
Good for her. Hoping to see many more lawsuits.

The fact that she's changing her mind proves that she was a woman all along.
Sorry, couldn't resist!

Unless someone finds that she lacked capacity to give informed consent for the “treatment”, which is doubtful, I don’t see how a lawsuit goes anywhere. Her treatment was, by all accounts, successful in that she got what she wanted at the time.

I hate to say it...fk it. It had really bad parents that failed it. It depended on the village and the village offered it up for sacrifice. It’s lucky to be alive. I had a few friends that made stupid choices and they’re gone.

She was 30 when she had this done. Not sure she has much grounds for a lawsuit. She’s (supposedly) an adult, and responsible for her decisions. I’m sure she signed some paperwork indicating that she was aware of what was being done, and that she agreed to it.
