That’s one way to solve the US port congestion problem.

Does it take long to unload a “blank sailing” ship?

Well maybe US companies should make more of their products here instead of overseas. Then they wouldn’t have supply chain problems.

Maybe somebody can explain the phrase "blank sailing?"

Does this mean they are sending empty ships across the ocean? Why not just keep them in port until they have cargo?

Are “blank sailings” cancelled trips or empty ships? Why don’t people use the language properly?

This 40% drop is due to a year over year shift by week, not an overall decline. The overall drop has been about 20% which can be attributed to how much showed up late last Christmas and the lack of any "must-have" items this year.

There's no major television upgrade, computer upgrade, gaming console, or children's toy driving up shipping. The U.S. also has a declining birth rate which means fewer toys sold each year.

Of course Democrat inflation directed by Jao Bai-din and Janet Yellen means consumers are also spending more on gas and groceries instead of gifts.

Recessions aren’t good for anybody.

There’s an expression from investing circles: “When the U.S. sneezes the world catches a cold.” Our economy is important, here and outside our borders. We consume a lot, and we invest a lot. When our economy falters, we buy and invest less oversees.

Actual free trade is mutually beneficial. However, national security should come first. Why would we allow ourselves to become dependent on our enemies?

Free trade and freedom are bound together. This applies regardless of whether you are a consumer, producer, or both. We are talking about your freedom to buy from whomever you want and to sell to anyone. I bought Ivermectin tablets from India. I see nothing wrong with someone selling wheat to the southern hemisphere, if there are seasonal buyers.

A lot of so-called free trade is no such thing. A free trade agreement can be brief: All tariffs and quotas between our nations are abolished. Not A Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was more than a thousand pages. President Trump said it was a bad deal, and that sounds right as negotiators were given accolades for mere having a deal (any deal).

I don’t think our problems are due to free trade. The Biden war on oil/gas/coal is just plain stupid, even if it is supported by decades of liberal misinformation on global warming and climate change. Biden’s war on working, in favor of government dependency, is almost as bad. Our response to the Wuhan virus has been profoundly mistaken and self-destructive.

Is there patriotism in buying American? Some. My first car purchase was American due to patriotism. However, I concluded the US auto workers union and the US car companies cared less about me than Honda and others. Patriotism should be a two-way street.

The problem on the read is, point-to-point going back into 2019, it's almost on average.

China is still China after all these centuries. They have a BIG habit of shooting themselves in the foot.

China has a huge ego and huge superiority complex which leads them to behave highly insularly for most of their long history. They believe they already know everything, and no foreign barbarian can teach them anything.

Centuries ago, China was a major maritime power. They had ships with 6 mast sails that dwarfed anything afloat in Europe at the time. Their famous explorer Zheng He commanded far flung explorations that reached as far as Africa at least. He told tales of waves as big as mountains. He told of strange places and peoples. Then a new emperor came to power. He cancelled future voyages saying China didn’t need to know about other countries. He ordered the huge fleets of Zheng He burned. That was the end of Chinese exploration and discovery.

Centuries later they simultaneously mocked and were amazed by European industrial products which had no equivalents in China. Their mathematics and philosophy were far behind. And yet they had vast libraries of encyclopedias.

Insular China cares only about China and will damage itself given enough time.
