TSA has put some important constraints on its use of facial recognition — but its current programs are just the beginning.
No, you don’t have to participate in facial recognition at the airport. Whether you’ll feel like you have a real choice is a separate question.
This system is for general passenger security screening. You step up to the travel document checker kiosk and stick your ID into a machine. Then you look into a camera for up to five seconds and the machine compares your live photo to the one it sees on your ID. They call this a “one to one” verification system, comparing one face to one ID. Even though the software is judging if you’re an impostor, there’s still a human agent there to make the final call (at least for now).
So how accurate is it? The TSA says it’s been better at verifying IDs than the manual process. “This technology is definitely a security enhancement,” Lim said. “We are so far very satisfied with the performance of the machine’s ability to conduct facial recognition accurately.
“No one should worry about being misidentified."
TSA already has a plan to expand the scope of how it’s using the tech. It’s running a pilot of a second system at a few airports where you don’t even have to present your physical ID for inspection. Your face is your ID.

Of course not. There’s nothing to worry about, citizen, if you are not guilty of something.
If mall cop is spelled with a j, a b and a t.
Yep, this is the one time I will wear a mask in the airport... and then take it off as soon as I’m through the checkpoint!

It would be very helpful to society if all facial image data stored by the government were available by FOIA requests. That large dataset could be very valuable to private and academic researchers. It could be used to train more accurate AI models, and it could be used to find imposters or people using false identification.
There is already a massive database of face pictures. Each state’s DMV records. When we went for our drivers’ licenses, they never told us that our face was on file and that it would be used for boarding airplanes.
If this isn’t shut down, they will expand the scope to federal buildings, office buildings, malls, streets, highways, gas stations, starting your “self driving” car, logging on to your computer.
China already has it. Plus they have the social credit system.
The USA has a rudimentary social credit system. There are a lot of Chinese software engineers who would be very happy to implement the Chinese system in the USA, for a few billion bucks.
But voter ID is racist…
If there’s a way to truly limit the power of gov’t so that it can’t abuse this kind of technology, it would be a good thing. There have to be extreme consequences for abuse. Since the elites think there are too many people on the planet, maybe a death penalty would be appropriate.
Satan is pushing hard for his agenda. But IMO it’s a bit too early yet. This gloom will happen for a very short but unimaginable seven years coming soon.
However, I think Luke 14;23 tells us there will be a merciful worldwide spiritual revival first, our merciful Lord full of grace and truth gathering as many who will come in before the rapture and the seven-year hell-on-earth - IMO a few decades from now.
TSA already requires passengers to remove their mask when they present their ID. That alone should tell everyone how important they consider wearing a mask to be, which is not at all.
There is a major aspect of security theater involved in matching IDs to people. In many places a few hundred dollars buys a fake government issued ID. Comparing the fake to the person holding it does nothing to establish actual identity.
And there’s no such thing as a gun registry.

There is one simple approach. Make all of the image data and the associated identity publicly available data.

And if you buy that one what you are saying is that computers are infallible. You are saying computers can’t be hacked and changed. You are putting the responsibility in a world wide TSA computer system to contain record of you, photo, personal information, current location and where you are going. Why does that stink of failure?
