Rep. Elise Stefanik's campaign claims $20,000 in donor checks stolen in mail

Rep. Elise Stefanik's campaign says U.S. Postal Service workers stole nearly $20,000 in donor checks from packages they sent through the mail.

The campaign alleges that four separate packages sent in June, October and November 2022 were cut into and that postal police did not escalate the matter.

The Stefanik campaign sent a letter to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy Thursday about the "repeated, targeted theft of campaign contributions from packages sent through the United States Postal Service."

"Congresswoman Stefanik and her campaign supporters are not the only Americans who have been victimized by mail theft. Mail theft is rampant in the United States, and USPS appears unwilling or unable to effectively deter or prevent it," the letter says.

The campaign has also raised concerns about personal data issues, including concerns of identity theft for some individuals, with the theft of the checks.

Stefanik was reelected as House GOP conference chairwoman last month, after easily winning reelection to her seat in New York's 21st congressional district.

The Washington Examiner has reached out to the U.S. Postal Service for comment.

Postal employees are nothing but a bunch of thieves. If there is anyone by now who does not know that they are idiots!

I agree, I know of many businesses in my area that have been hit hard and they are getting little to none cooperation from the USPS. Theses thefts certainly appear to be internal to USPS facilities. I haven't been affected but many SBs and Churches are being defrauded.

Stefanic has a large, sparsely populated district up on the Canadian border. I suspect the theft happened down in DC.

You have to hand it to the Democrats, when it comes to stealing they know how to do it.

True, but for personal gain, theft of merchandise.

These thefts were obviously politically motivated, since the checks would have been worthless to use...........

“Mail theft is rampant in the United States”

I am old enough to remember when theft of US Mail was a very serious offence. So serious that mail theft was even less heard of than murder. Now, like murder it is probably a simple misdemeanor.
Besides,Elise Stefanik is a backbench Republican with a known dislike for Dear Leader, so this particular letter is probably already thru the shredder into the circular file.

The USPS was deep into election fraud in 2020, and it appears they stepped up their game for 2022.

Not much you can do about it. Financial transactions online have their issues, too. This is the world today.

Not all missed deliveries are theft. Sometimes it's just plain "mistakes".

Which is why I don't trust the US Mail anymore. Testified to the issue at a utility commission rate hearing a few years back.

I am old enough to remember the Postal Service chastising my Grandmother for putting a stamp upside down on a letter...I think they returned it to her.

She needs to open a P.O. box labeled something leftist, like teacher union donation, and it will never get broken in to and it will get there days earlier.

Decades ago, when I was a kid, my passport was stolen from a diplomatic pouch. Bet they put it to use immediately and often.
