Apparently, No Lawyer Wants to Defend Cochise County’s Refusal to Certify Election Results
National Review ^ | December 1, 2022 | Jim Geraghty

The increasing ridiculousness of the stance of the supervisors in Cochise County, Ariz., appears to be another hard lesson of, “Don’t elect lunatics to positions of serious public responsibility”:

Cochise County officials may go to court Thursday without an attorney to represent them against charges that they broke the law by failing to certify the results of the Nov. 8 election.

County supervisors on Tuesday voted to hire attorney Bryan Blehm to defend them and the county government against two lawsuits, even though they had not discussed the matter with him. On Wednesday, they were caught flat-footed when Blehm declined the offer, as did another attorney he had recommended.

The three supervisors are due in a Bisbee courtroom at 1 p.m. as a judge considers requests from Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, as well as a retiree group, to order the board to certify election results. That certification, by law, was due Monday. But on a 2-1 vote, the board voted to delay a decision until week’s end.

Blehm represented the self-named “Cyber Ninjas,” the group that ran the controversial Maricopa County audit of the 2020 election. Apparently, he took one look at the county supervisors’ situation and said, “No thanks.”

When no lawyer wants to take your case, that’s probably a sign that you’ve stumbled into a position that is exceptionally difficult to defend in a court of law.

If you are a Republican officeholder, you enjoy the same First Amendment rights as anyone else and have every right to publicly argue that the Arizona election had too many problems to be legitimate. You would be wrong on the facts, as Maricopa County’s elections department — and county lawyer Rachel Mitchell — have declared, repeatedly, that “every voter was afforded the ability to legally and securely cast their ballot,”

Republicans and Democrats should stop making claims about voter fraud that cannot stand up in court.

What makes you think they can’t?

Big Med kills and injuries people are Deep State’s behest.

You think Big Law won’t walk away if told to do so by Deep State.

This likely has ZERO to do with the merits of the case.

What about when you are sick with COVID-19 and no doctor wants to prescribe you HCQ or Ivermectin?

What’s that a sign of?

Alternate explanation: No attorney is willing to become a target to the Regime who will destroy anyone who opposes them.

The writer completely ignores co-mingled ballots and bad chain of custody.

He actually dismisses and argument as invalid because it is contradicted by a public official. THEY never lie or dissemble!

For the Republican AG, this hold-up caused his case to be dismissed because it was deemed premature since he has to wait until after the election was certified.

So this is where we are now: we the people are not allowed to put a hold on election results that seem fishy. However, if we wait until after the results are certified, then if cases are brought the MSM can say "But the election was certified, it's too late to contest, and by the way we need to get on with things because the candidate who "won" needs time to transition and figure out all of his/her appointees."

Once again damned if we do and damned if we don't.

Yes, lawyers kiss up to those in power, and perceive retaliation well. They can see what happened to Sydney Powell and Rudi Guiliani for contesting the 2020 Big Steal. The Cochise County Board should just take a holiday in Europe until January. Things will get interesting then.

Facts are stubborn things.

Someone else can chime in with the difficult thing John Adams, with his bottomless integrity, stood up and did, when all others in his profession in Boston in the early 1770s shied away.

No BAR (British Accreditation Regency) Attorney wants to defend them, since BAR Attorneys are part of the Deep State Cabal.

That’s where non-BAR lawyers might come into play - these lawyers would probably be fine doing so. IF, the BAR Judge allows them into the courtroom.

“The writer completely ignores co-mingled ballots and bad chain of custody.”

In Cochise County? Cochise is a solid red county. Kari Lake beat Hobbs by 18 points in Cochise.

The Cochise County Supervisors are refusing to certify results in Cochise County to protest the election day problems in Mariposa County. How throwing away Republican votes in Cochise is going to make up for fraud in Mariposa is a puzzler.
