The murderers in the dumbbell murderer case, the inspiration for the book and movie
Double Indemnity, were executed ten months after the crime. ("Dumbbell" was used uncharitably, but accurately, to characterize the murderers, it had nothing to do with the weapon.) In the Sacco and Vanzetti case (they were both guilty as hell) the defense tried, in a last minute desperate attempt, to postpone or reverse the death penalty by arguing that seven years between the crime and execution was cruel and unusual punishment.
Maybe Sacco and Vanzetti's lawyers were right. I hope this bastard suffered for the last 17 years on death row, and I hope his execution causes others on death row throughout the nation anxiety and suffering.
