“shipping costs are probably killing them”
Sure, but they are raising Prime membership to offset some of it. 200 million memberships (must be worldwide) x this years $20 increase = 4 $ billion in membership increases.
“I’m a true believer in the business model of Amazon, and I do most of my shopping there. To me, the idea of driving to a store, wandering around to find what I came for, and then waiting until someone can take my money is just so 20th century.”
I go online to Amazon, I search, I compare, I buy. They ship it to my door. Even accepting the argument than I might find it cheaper locally doesn’t account for my transportation costs and the value of my time. “I really don’t want to spend half a day shopping, and other than garden supplies, groceries and stuff which is awkward to ship, it’s my first stop.”
We are now well into our 80’s and store shopping had left our home even before Covid hit America.
We have been prime members basically since they started it.
Walmart and Safeway/Raleys often became PIA’s re getting what you order and other issues.
We are amazed re how many good to excellent grocery items are available with next day shipping via Amazon prime @ good prices.
Whenever, we go online to many stores, like Home Depot, for certain items, an Amazon price on that item appears on our upper right screen. A lot of the time those Amazon Prime prices plus the free deliveries beat other prices with basically no hassle nor games.
Once a month, we use Costco’s 2 hour delivery to buy a lot of good food items and household products at great prices.
We had cut down on our shopping trips so much we couldn’t keep the batteries charged on 2 vehicles. So one of our heirs got an early inheritance of a Honda Ridgeline. So all the expenses associated with keeping a good vehicle running have been cut in half. We kept my wife’s 15 year old Lexus.
After Black Friday dies down, we will compare prices on clothing and household items with Kohl’s. Some of their sale items have great prices. A Kohl’s near us, is 5 minutes away.
Will Biden be intervening for these poor souls as he will the railroad?
I was too young for a leisure suit then and just assume not try to wear one now.
One of reasons why I refuse to shop at Amazon unless I have to.
Perhaps you failed to read the entire post. Walk-offs are for simps and sissies and pussies who can’t cut life.
You work for a company, or you do not. Don’t like the conditions? Quit.
Tell me, did that agreement include the company treating the warehouse people like s**t?
YOU were talking about agreements. No?
This time instead of evading the question, answer it.
Yep, I never thought I would be a big online shopper, but like you, the benefits are too large.
If nothing else, it’s the return option with Amazon. I don’t send back much, but returning an Amazon purchase is a breeze. There’s a UPS pickup at the auto parts store just up the street, and all I have to do is tape up the box.
Smaller enterprises couldn’t pull this off, but I’m buying a new TV, $80 off the sale price because someone returned it. If a local store had such an easy policy, that same TV might sit for months. But with Amazon’s scale, somebody like me will snatch it up.
Our local Kohl’s does the returns for us. UPS doesn’t seem to want to get into returns.
Amazon makes it easy to compare prices with Costco/Walmart.
My wife’s nice sweats were showing some wear due to the Covid B’$.
We went with Costco, price was lower, 3-4 day free delivery.
Explains why our cat food hasn’t been delivered, maybe
“Warehouse workers are treated like crap.”
True. My brother worked there during a Christmas season. It was disgusting how they were treated. Very soon after, he had a heart attack. Probably not a cause-and-effect thing, but still...
(Had surgery. Is fine now.)
I did driving for two weeks while switching engineering positions.
It was mainly uneducated city blacks 20-40, and white people that lost their jobs and 50+. Seeing them trying to push all those bags full of boxes was painful. These were clearly out of shape desk workers.
