Key Allies Are Inching Away From Trump [Kristi Noem]
NY Times ^

At an annual gathering of Republican governors in Orlando, donors and lobbyists mingled with governors past, present and future while weighing ways to wrest Mr. Trump from the party’s base. Their main complaint was not over policy or even style, but losses the party has taken since Mr. Trump won the White House in 2016.

Gov. Kristi Noem of South Dakota, a Republican often mentioned as a potential 2024 candidate, said she did not believe Mr. Trump offered “the best chance” for the party in 2024.

“If we narrow our focus there, then we’re not talking to every single American,” Ms. Noem said in an interview as she sat across a mahogany table from her political adviser, Corey Lewandowski, who served as campaign manager for an early portion of Mr. Trump’s 2016 bid. “Our job is not just to talk to people who love Trump or hate Trump. Our job is to talk to every single American.”

Our job is to talk to every single American.”
= = =

How will you make them listen?

With logic and common sense?

Many Americans today want to hear how LGBT, Trans, Abortions, etc. is OK. Who wants to say that, so they will listen?

Trump, bombastic as he is, gets them to listen without saying that stuff.

“Our job is not just to talk to people who love Trump or hate Trump. Our job is to talk to every single American.”

The regular Republicans are taking the high road -- right over the cliff, in typical regular Republican style.

I think it would be best if Trump had not run for 2024 but instead started a new political party that could organize before 2024.

But if he runs, we need to support him.

Sugar Tits is a triangulating hot mess.

Only DeSantis is supported by the base of Americans and he is going to stay governor of FL for another term and probably run in 2028.

Trump better not pick a triangulating chick like Haley or Noem. If he does, it will be terrible for what’s left of the country.

Heck, I’d take Lake over those two for the Veep spot.

I wish I could have been more joyful about yesterday, with Trump declaring his intent to campaign for the nomination, but I am not. I still want what he could deliver as president but I don’t think Trump can work with his supporters enough to create that working environment of productivity.

I get the impression he wants to regain what has wrongly (and illegally) been taken from him, and he has no particular interest in listening to the concerns of others on how to go about achieving this goal.I could regain my prior level of confidence in Trump if, as a beginning, he could tap the brakes on namecalling other republicans or their spouses (Coco-Chow). All that does is stir up a new source of enemies for himself. Take a breath, Mr. President, slow down and find some way to show your fellow republicans that you have some respect for them. They don’t owe you their careers.

Save that clever anger and sarcasm for the enemy, the Dem/Socialists. And even then, don’t give them more easy ammunition to deflect from your actual message. Don’t make fun of their weight, the car they drive, or the way they talk. The 2016 approach is not going to work in 2024 without a few changes. Everyone knows you now. Save all those little “jokes” for your rallies if you are nominated. Start out calm, focused and collected, or you will lose some donor support from those on the fence. Find others to do the hiring for your campaign. Delegate.

Stay on message and focus on the future of America. We cannot change what has already been done, nor are we as republicans in a position to prosecute what was done. Walk away from the past. Focus on present day issues such as the border, the economy, the schools, Oh, and voter intergrity too.

I really don’t think Trump is our best chance in 2024 but he is not to blame for our losses. Mail in voting and the associated ballot harvesting is mostly to blame. What the hell has the Turtle and Mittens Niece done about it. Not a damn thing!!

What ungrateful assholes. At some point, they will be the ones having the knives stuck in their back, and I hope I live to see it.

Yesterday I wondered how many, if any, governors would come out and support Trump...

The expression “Dance with the one who brung ya” comes to mind.

Many of these newly found critics road in on Trump’s coattails, and in less than a week following the election, they are oh so politely throwing Trump under the bus. Though I have heard mixed comments about Pompeo so was not terribly surprised that he made comments, I am very disappointed with NOEM and surprised that she would be one of the first.

I hope MAGA has a loooong memory!
