I’m curious how HR would verify they were real worker. And if they weren’t real, they were probably created by an HR person doing the verification.

The story never says whether they found bots on the payroll. It just whines that Musk was making sure there weren't any.

BTW that sounds reasonable to me. Code writes can put all kinds of stuff in their programs.

Especially when he says the HQ building occupancy peak was 25% and averaged around 10%.

I remember when Katrina hit New Orleans & about 15% OR MORE of the ‘police department’ turned out to be GHOST employees.

George Warren Smith was getting a check & Warren George Smith was getting a check...OR G. Warren Smith-—etc.

Not surprising at all.
I worked on a mine project overseas that had a large camp for employees.
About 6-months after the project changed ownership, an audit of the camp occupants was conducted and we found that there were 12 people living in the camp who had been laid off months prior.
Hey, pretty good deal...3-squares and a bunk and no work.

Musk is going to require long form birth certificates to be able to post on Twitter.

“Musk is going to require long form birth certificates to be able to post on Twitter.”

That’d slam the brakes on Obama, then.

He should have a PI check to see if any of them were working full time for two companies (i.e., working for Twitter, plus also working some other company that is equally naïve).

Years ago a company I was at hired an employee. Shortly thereafter he went on sick leave. After 6 weeks they finally discovered he had gotten a job at another company and was on "sick leave" while deciding whether the other job would work out.

Working from home allows people to "work from home" from multiple jobs.

It’s definitely “a thing” in the modern workplace that employers should look out for. And work to ensure it never or at least rarely, happens to them.

It’s really bad juju, if you ask One Guy (this guy).

My company does this once or twice a year. Instead of direct deposit, you get a real check.

They do it to see who does show up to get their check. Then they find out why and how ong ago the employee left the company.

The first time they did it, they found the payroll head was working with some ex-employees to steal money. Some had not worked for the company for over a year.
