As Americans continue to wait for full election results and whether Republicans actually take a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, challenges to Leader Kevin McCarthy are mounting after a red wave failed to show up Tuesday night.
Another GOP source sees below tweet, texts me “If you look at what happened in Florida last night, that’s what McCarthy and also Rick Scott were promising would happen across the rest of the country. But it didn’t” https://t.co/FgODTnlX5O— Jacqui Heinrich (@JacquiHeinrich) November 9, 2022
Third GOP source sees below tweet, texts me “House leadership race will be Lord of the Flies, but with bath salts… And for once the Florida Man is the normal one!” https://t.co/FgODTnlX5O— Jacqui Heinrich (@JacquiHeinrich) November 9, 2022
Even if Republicans win the House by one or two seats, which hasn't happened yet, McCarthy is set to have an uphill climb through a logistical minefield.
2) Republicans may be heading for a majority somewhere in the 220s for next year. The entire House elects the Speaker. The successful candidate must have an outright majority of the entire House. In other words, 218 votes if the House is constituted at 435.— Chad Pergram (@ChadPergram) November 9, 2022
4) Heading into Tuesday, McCarthy probably had a range of 7-10 Republicans who wouldn’t support him for Speaker no matter what. That number could grow.— Chad Pergram (@ChadPergram) November 9, 2022
6) It wouldn’t take much for Mr. Trump to throw McCarthy under the bus. Especially considering the GOP’s tepid success when expectations were so lofty.— Chad Pergram (@ChadPergram) November 9, 2022
8) It was as though McCarthy said the quiet part out loud.
Support for McCarthy to succeed Boehner was already shaky. But some Republicans were already looking for a reason to oppose McCarthy. They found it in the Benghazi remark – and McCarthy was toast.— Chad Pergram (@ChadPergram) November 9, 2022
10) Moreover, if McCarthy does become Speaker, he is going to have to veer FAR to the right to meet the demands of the House Freedom Caucus on a host of issues – ranging from impeachments to funding the government to raising the debt ceiling.— Chad Pergram (@ChadPergram) November 9, 2022
12) In addition, the calling card of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is passing major bills with the most narrow of margins. She’s done it for two decades. McCarthy has never demonstrated strong vote counting prowess. McCarthy could face instant management problems.— Chad Pergram (@ChadPergram) November 9, 2022
14) If McCarthy doesn’t take a stand against that bill and do what the Freedom Caucus wants, those same members could hold that against him if and when he stands for Speaker on the House floor on January 3.
As we say, it will be “about the math” when it comes to McCarthy.— Chad Pergram (@ChadPergram) November 9, 2022
Republicans and conservatives aren't holding back after a failure to secure the House with any kind of significant margin.
Kevin McCarthy spent close to $10 Million going after me, Joe Kent, and 6 other Republicans in their primary elections
That money could’ve been spent lifting up the Republicans we just saw lose
McCarthy is a failed disgrace & must NOT become Speakerhttps://t.co/1ElP7CGP2W— Anthony Sabatini (@AnthonySabatini) November 9, 2022
Kevin McCarthy’s speech tonight is one of the most tone deaf speeches I have ever heard.— Brigitte Gabriel (@ACTBrigitte) November 9, 2022
Did Kevin McCarthy Really Deliver a Victory Speech Last Night?https://t.co/STKPz1ZvDU— Katie Pavlich (@KatiePavlich) November 9, 2022
What is Kevin McCarthy celebrating?
Tonight was a disaster for the Republican Party.
This isn’t the red wave we were promised for months by the pollsters and consultant class.— Nick Adams (Alpha Male) (@NickAdamsinUSA) November 9, 2022
I think we need to win this thing first.
SQUASH the SQUISH!
I’m more concerned about a needed challenge to Mitch in the Senate, either as minority or majority leader.
Katie Pavlich writes an article and quotes a tweet by Katie Pavlich.
Maybe the J6 hostages are there so that the RINOs can “free” them. That might finish Trump.
So am I.
It will be won in the coming hours. The AP won’t add in Arizona, Montana and Louisiana seats yet I think they vote a different day.
Trump endorsed McCarthy so no wonder a challenge.
There’s an anti-Trump narrative in the “conservative media” universe today.
Who ever it is, I’m sure that they will grotesquely underwhelm us.
Another GOP source sees below tweet, texts me “If you look at what happened in Florida last night, that’s what McCarthy and also Rick Scott were promising would happen across the rest of the country. But it didn’t”
FACT - the first thing Ron DeSantis did when he won the governor’s race in Florida was to clean up Dade and Palm Beach County elections.
What happened?
In 2020, Florida went solidly red. Sure, some of that was his policies and migration of conservatives fleeing blue states, but not all of it.
In 2022, Florida went even more red AND the election was run in an orderly fashion with results known on election day.
I am concerned about the whispers that the GOPe is courting DeSantis. Any candidate that Paul Ryan endorsed would be very hard for me to support based on instinct.
However, the man gets results and guess what is the most important yet overlooked point about his results?
He is legislating. LEGISLATING.
Trump was forced by the GOPe to operate via executive orders because he could not get his agenda through the house or senate.
As successful as he was in acting as chief executive his actions were wiped away with the same action of a pen by his “successor”.
The changes brought about by DeSantis will last beyond his term as governor. The changes brought about by Trump were great, but they are a distant memory outside of judicial appointments and shining a light on the swamp.
There are two lessons here -
1) clean up elections
2) sell your message to the legislature and implement your agenda via laws so they are more permanent
Sorry to hijack your thread - I DO NOT support McCarthy for Speaker, but I am also a realist and unless the ones we like more support someone else it is a done deal.
“The AP won’t add in Arizona, Montana and Louisiana seats yet I think they vote a different day.”
Louisiana technically had its “primary” election yesterday, with runoffs to be held in December if necessary.
None are necessary.
These results are final. Not “official” yet, but all of the winners are known and they will not change. Republicans took 5 of the 6 seats, as they have for at least a decade now. Nothing surprising here.
The GOP gets to 218 sooner or later I would project by Friday.

Ronna Romney McDaniel must be fired too
There is nothing inspiring about this guy. He’s nothing more than a Mitch McConnell of the Congress.
A total puffball and worthless

True. That may be the one positive thing about having a narrow house win. He might not have the votes for speaker.
I agree!
Let’s put our 45th president,Donald J. Trump, as Speaker of the House!
He would teach all of the Ds and Rinos a thing or two!

That’s probable, but it’s going to literally take a MONTH before California finalizes its count. If we see “ballot harvesting” on anything approaching the scale of 2018, you can subtract at least 1 or 2 (Valadao, Garcia, maybe Steel) from the GOP count. And that *could* end up making a lot of difference if some other things don’t go our way between now and then like in Arizona, Nevada and some others.
Forgot to mention Calvert as a likely casualty of California Democrat ballot harvesting in the above post. So we could lose 4 seats if Democrats get their way.
