Another Inflation Gauge Just Burned Past Predictions
Townhall ^ | October 12, 2022 | Spencer Brown

The Producer Price Index, which measures inflation upstream from consumers, registered another month of increased prices in September in what is more bad news for the Biden administration's attempt to get any modicum of positive economic news before November's midterms.

Headline PPI inflation showed prices increasing 0.4 percent in September, double the 0.2 percent economists predicted for a 12-month increase of 8.5 percent, a rate that also surpassed Wall Street estimates. What's more, the month-over-month number shows that cost increases are accelerating for producers, with final demand services advancing 0.4 percent in September after increasing 0.3 percent in August.

I’m reading leftist sites on this news, and they’re blaming the Fed for the inflation by raising interest rates! (??????)

What a bunch of economic illiterates.

Services inflation is a lot harder to squelch than commodities.

Keep in mind the fact that these inflation indices have been manipulated for political reasons. It’s been going on for decades. Anyone who visits their local grocery store regularly or pays monthly utility bills knows the reported 7% inflation is a complete fiction.

So true. When labor is your primary input to services and inflation drives up wages the only way you can cut future prices is by cutting pay. Then you lose your workforce.

I hope so but I’m not hearing any solutions from the Republicans either. Just a lot of complaining and posturing.

We’re in for deep and prolonged economic contraction IMO because the government’s approach to fighting inflation is totally lop sided (i.e., the entire focus is on demand and completely ignores the supply side).

It’ll be fun to watch our wonder press secretary try and put a positive spin on this when she gets asked about it.

Only leaders stand up with solutions and proposals, cowards hide for fear they will lose votes for taking a stand.

Biden: I didn’t know that printing money and out of control government spending would do that.

True and good points. It IS the policies of this administration causing these problems—period! Reverse it and most will be resolved. However, our “leaders” aren’t interested in “making America great” again...
