Why not just put missiles and bases in other NATO countries like Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, or (soon) Finland?
Missile defense is nothing close to an impenetrable shield against a missile strike from a near-peer adversary. It’s a percentage play which introduces a measure of uncertainty in the enemy calculations of effectiveness of a potential strike.
