Just last week, my wife was lobbying for a winter trip to Sanibel to see the birds and shells. She visited it with her sister some 25 years ago. One thing she remembered clearly was that it was about 3 feet above sea level... and they had a massive storm surge yesterday.

I guess many new residents of FL did not realize the power of a hurricane and decided to stay instead of evacuating.

Sorry to bring up the political, but my guess is der Bidenfuhrer is to feeble and vindictive to take command of the Florida rescue.

With all due respect, hurricane rescue isn’t exactly a Constitutional duty of the president. That said, Brandon’s response has certainly been petty, weak, and late relative to historical presidential responsiveness.

~~~
Doesn’t matter how it happened, nor how much merit there is for it, the media will focus on DeSantis.
Deathcounts are making the CNN production board room drool on the table.
A big problem was unreliable forecasts putting land fall all over the place and constantly shifting. Everywhere from Tarpon Springs to Cape Coral.
It was reported yesterday that Biden tried to call Lee county leaders but no one answered
The blame bubbles up to the nearest Republican.
Bush/Katrina. The blame bypassed all the democrats in office and was attributed to Bush.
For this hurricane, the blame will stop at DeSantis, because he’s a Republican and the media hates him with a passion already.
Everything has been politicized, in this once-great country, even the weather.
Already started by setting up the question. “The Hill” propaganda source stated that DeSantis’ governorship will be judged by his response to Hurricane Ian before it got to withing 200 miles. Bush was hammered and given TOTAL responsibility for Katrina.
The people were warned to get out. People have to listen to warnings because weather predicting is never exact.
The causeway out to Sanibel was destroyed. Anyone who stayed behind is trapped.
Anyone living in Florida not getting out of the way of a Cat4 huricane, well, not to smart. We knew this was coming two weeks ago. All one has to do is drive north 3 or 4 hours and life is safe.
Any fatality who failed to evacuate the coast and move at least several miles inland is guilty of suicide.
Hmm, after Katrina worthless Ray Nagin was on TV blathering about more than 10, 000 fatalities. I would take the sheriff’s hammy or hysterical posturing with a grain of salt.
And yes, I got the response when I said no one should trust Nagin or any of the poor excuses for officialdom of Orleans Parish with ‘well he should know’ responses. Not really, at this point no one has a good estimate. All that is known is the worthless media whores will be swarming in anxious for cheap bathos to inflate.
With all due respect, hurricane rescue isn’t exactly a Constitutional duty of the president.
Certainly true.
But it's pretty frustrating when the response to every disaster is "Let's find a Republican to blame" and if the top guy is a Democrat the response "Well, where does the Constitution say that's his job???"
