I'm a British patriot and I'd never shirk a fight. But as we edge closer to nuclear war, why ARE we stoking conflict in Ukraine rather than trying to achieve peace, asks PETER HITCHENS
Daily Mail ^ | 9/24/22 | PETER HITCHENS

What is Britain’s interest in Ukraine?

Why are we shovelling weapons and equipment into that country, despite the fact that our national budget is stretched to bursting and our own armed forces have for many years been starved of money, men and kit?

If we were a proper open society, surely this question would be asked all the time. But it is not.

So I am asking it now, as the Ukraine war threatens to ignite the whole of Europe and has already brought us closer to actual nuclear warfare than we have ever been.

You self-describe as a “total libertarian”, thereby relegating your opinion to the trash heap.

“Actually, you are wrong. China sent a clear message to Vladimer Putin “Don’t count on China to bail you out””

Sorry, where was I wrong about sanctions? In any case, I didn’t claim the countries were pro-Russian, China and India are NEUTRAL in this war, as the West should have been. They see it as Russia cleaning up their backyard, as the West SHOULD have also seen it.

Neutral....... that is the reality.

India is pretty much always neutral. It buys Russian oil because it was cheap. That has apparently hanged as the transport cost has made Russian oil uncompetative with that from the nearby various GCC prodicers

China is neutral because it sees which way the wind is blowing.

I hear what you are saying, and I don’t disagree, the logic I can’t follow is this, assuming a nuclear war actually broke out, the first salvo would most likely come as a surprise from a submarine or hypersonic missile giving the receiving side little or no time to react.

What if the first detonation was taking out Washington D.C., how many of these deep staters or globalist elites in Washington would survive, IMO probably ZERO, same would happen if the first attack also took out London, Berlin and other European capitals.

All these people pushing for war with Russia would be vaporized in a second, yes, the great reset would certainly happen at that point, but what would be left to rule over ??

Britain would have been wise to make clear it had no real interests east of the Rhine. They might kept a sort of empire and counted for something internationally. As it was Churchill told Alabrooke in May 1945, ‘I never in my life been so worried over affairs in Europe’. The UK helped Stalin emerge from defeat by destroying Germany and destroying the great in Great Britain and for what? Take your honor and see if you can buy a cup of coffee with it. People who bleat about honor in international relations are either deluded fools or conmen who want someone else to spend resources or blood for their interests.

Take Trump’s advice and shut down this constant threat of Russia going to nuke the world, don’t promote it.

“Neutral....... that is the reality.”

Yep, that was also all I was saying - we couldn’t get the whole world against Russia, as the countries that feel they need to listen to us is quickly shrinking.

The KGB officer who took over the evil empire remnants for a life reign and whose allies are communist North Korea, communist Red China, and evil Iran, yeah, he seems to be the savior of civilization.

Many other questions not being asked....such as WHY are our leaders (both parties) allowing the invasion of our southern border?

+++++++++++++++++++++++

Excellent point. This should be the #1 question to anyone running for office. It also illustrates, crystal clear, why PDJT was not allowed to win in 2020 and also answers why they are moving heaven and earth trying to disqualify him in 2024.

Europe is energy poor. Russia has what they need and want. They may be the most energy rich nation on the planet.

I think so. According to Worldometers:

Natural Gas Reserves
1. Russia, 24.3% world share
2. Iran, 17.3%
3. Qatar, 12.5%

Coal Reserves
1. United States, 22.3%
2. Russia, 15.5%
3. Australia, 14.0%

Oil Reserves
8. Russia, 4.8%

You have zero understanding of Peter Hitchens. He “called for the abolition of Britain” the same way C.S. Lewis called for the abolition of man. In other words, he was warning of what the left is doing, and is *against* the abolition of Britain. Maybe you should read both books (Abolition of Man and Abolition of Britain).

He is absolutely not a globalist. The opposite.

I don’t always agree with him, but at least I understand his position. You seem to have it all backwards.

sorry, Cat. Peter wants England to withdraw from the U.K. I’m happy to be corrected, but not when I’m right.

BTW since you are such a big Peter Hitchens fan, do you think it was wrong for Great Britain to fight against Hitler?
