Summary/Overview
Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a “partial mobilization” calling up 300,000 reservists effective September 21. He made clear that he no longer sees the Ukraine intervention as a limited “special military operation” but as a fight against “the entire military machine of the collective West.”
“In the event of a threat to the territorial integrity of our country and to defend Russia and our people, we will certainly make use of all weapon systems available to us. This is not a bluff,” Putin said in a televised address.
The four partially Russian-occupied oblasts (regions) of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson will hold referenda on accession to Russia starting on Friday.
Collective Western reaction was derision – “sign of failure,” said UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace; “panic,” said Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte; “sign of weakness, sign of Russian failure,” said US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken; “act of desperation,” said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz – topping all.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Russia will be unable to win a nuclear war and would face unprecedented consequences if it used nuclear weapons.
After fast and substantial gains last week, the Ukrainian offensive in the East/Center theater over the past three days has made minimal progress and lost momentum. The offensive in the South announced with fanfare (as a feint?) in late August has not taken off.

The war in Ukraine has basically progressed as follows:
1. Donbass Militias against Ukraine - stalemate
2. Donbass Militias against upgraded Ukraine - militias were about to lose
3. Russia-supported Donbass Militias against upgraded Ukraine - Russia winning
4. Russia-supported Donbass Militias against NATO - NATO winning
5. Russian Military against NATO - we shall see.
The summary is a little bit biased. The “nuclear treat” was in relation to the nuclear blackmail in form of attacks on Energodar NPP by NATO.

Two days before the alleged “invasion” of Ukraine.
Convenient timing.
Nobody cares.
Go to Truth Social, or Gettr. Right wing alternatives to twit. Know how many conversations are about Ukraine?
None.
Zero.
Zip.

That’s the way I understood it.
It was said coherently, I have no idea why “journalists” missed it.
“we will certainly make use of all weapon systems available to us. This is not a bluff,”
A follow up to my prior quote post..
“The four partially Russian-occupied oblasts (regions) of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson will hold referenda on accession to Russia starting on Friday”
Put the two together.
My take is that once these republics are added to Russia they’ll be defended the same way any other part of Russia would be defended.
Makes sense to me.
Yup..that is what I believe.
The last straw lies in the hands of the protests gong on in Russia. If they are successful and take down the present government, we had better hope that the next in line is a reasonable man.
If not successful, then after the vote and they vote to go with Russia, and the Ukrainians attack what will be considered Russian territory, we enter the next stage of escalation-REAL potential nuclear war.
I wouldn’t waste much time hoping the protests in Russia amount to anything, since the biggest complaint in Russia is the slow pace of the war.
But yes, everything will be in place after the votes, and then the question will be whether it’s worth exchanging Western cities (and probably countries) for several pieces of Ukraine?
“protests in Russia amount to anything,”
It happened before. Not that very long ago to us old timers.
As to your second..it depends on Mr Depends and the rest of his merry war makers.
I cant disagree with you.
The NATO boys did a study a couple years ago. Cant remember where I read it but, in a full exchange with Russia, they estimated over 900 million direct deaths. If not more.
