Every would-be prime minister of the UK in my lifetime has been asked a question to the effect of, “Hypothetically speaking, if you were prime minister and circumstances arose where a nuclear strike were called for, would you push the button?”
Most answers are a qualified “yes” but only in the most extreme of generic hypothetical scenarios that don’t mention who they’d attack or when. Some are “yes” only if world war 3 was already underway and we’d already been hit by a first strike.

Putin didn’t mind when Trump said there are circumstances where he might use nuclear weapons. It REALLY is no different to that. Actually, Liz wasn’t even that explicit.

Trump, both before and after his Presidency, made much more direct and provocative statements about using nuclear weapons against Russia (and North Korea). But he was just being tough, and not a single person here accused him of being a neocon or a psychopath.
