The U.S. kicked butt in Afghanistan and Iraq. But, even after a generation, the Afghanis and the Arab-Iraqis would not fight for themselves. Thus, after we left, those countries lost their freedom.
The Ukrainians are different (and so are the Kurdish-Iraqis). They fight. There’s a reason our national anthem ends “the land of the free and the home of the brave.” If you don’t have it in you to fight, you’re going to be somebody else’s slave.
To be sure, in addition to be willing to fight, you need to be big enough or have the support of others big enough to be able to resist invasion by an imperial power. Putin hates NATO because it enables the peoples of eastern Europe to resist Russia.
Yes, and Vietnam, resulting in the FINAL and complete loss of each of those as allies of America, and each was a more disastrous loss than the previous until the final humiliation in Afghanistan.
However, Ukraine can top that.

And about half of America refuses to allow the playing of the National Anthem, to stand and to sing it in public gatherings in America.
The reason America cannot win the the long haul is because of the Politicians and Unelected Government Bureaucrats, not because the American Military doesn't deliver wins for the Government to throw away, and Ukraine will be the worst yet.
With absolutely nothing to show for it at all...a complete waste of lives, treasure and national reputation.
