When you post, below the main posting window is a Tagline: (optional, printed after your name on post).

You probably have a space (space) in that tagline box. Delete any space or character(s) in that box and the () should disappear.

Double thanks for the tagline information.

I searched every Help page on Free Republic a few days ago trying to figure out how to post on it.

LOL - I have published thousands of Comments at FR, and I completely forgot it is just half an inch below the Reply Box!
