I don’t think anyone is doing that.
I know that I’ve accidentally removed my sig. completely several times, without knowing how I did it; so it could be that something we do when posting adds marks there. I just know that I’ve seen what you are describing on numerous occasions.
The parathesis is part of your tagline, if you use it. Perhaps there is a blank character in there? Like when you type the spacebar?
