Speaking to CNBC’s Steve Sedgwick at the Ambrosetti Forum in Italy, Guriev said it was extremely difficult to predict what might happen when Putin is eventually replaced as president.
“So, probably initially it will be some kind of ultra-nationalist guy or military junta, but it will not last for long exactly because the system is built around Putin. And eventually, I think the system will collapse,” Guriev said.
“It could be months, it could be several years, it could be North Korea on steroids, who knows? But it could also be a situation where the system collapses and somebody who wants to rebuild the economy reaches out to the West,” he added.

More like a dozen North Koreas. All with nukes.
In other words, fail continuously while blaming other people.
“Be careful what you wish for...”
Agree - there was opposition to the ‘old guard’ in Russia by the ‘hip youngsters’ who wanted to be more ‘European’. The response from the ‘old guard’ was that Russians were different and would never be accepted by the ‘hip Europeans’. To the youngsters that sounded defensive and they wanted ‘change’.
Now, given how individual Russians, such as athletes and entertainers, are being treated like war criminals by the Europeans, and soon Russian grandmothers won’t be able to even visit friends in Europe...simply because they are Russian - pretty much the entire ‘young hipster’ generation in Russia realizes that the old guard was right all along...that the hatred in Europe is not towards the Russian government, it is towards ALL Russians.
Don’t tell the Uke apologists.
Oh, and by the way:
Strategically-speaking, our lousy relationship with Russia just so happens to benefit WHICH COUNTRY?
Yeah.
‘Coinkidink’ my chair.
North Korea is nothingness.
Russia is withering away to North Koreanist nothingness
Not surprising since Russians haven't changed much since WW2
traits, Russians have no respect for human life and are motherfuckers, barbarians, and chronic drunks. ”- General George Patton, 1945
At some point in the future we’ll probably be reminiscing “Remember the good ole days when all we had to worry about from Russia was Putin?”. The way things are going in this world, I fear he will be replaced by someone more along the lines of Obama-Soros...only more evil ... if that’s even possible.
...pretty much the entire ‘young hipster’ generation in Russia realizes that the old guard was right all along...

As the Russian hipousie see the economic hardships in Europe and the social degradation of the West in general, the relative security & prosperity of Russia might further change their POV.
Probably can’t extrapolate from my personal experience, but I’ve run this by friends in the same age cohort and there is a lot of agreement: we endured the 50s and railed against all the traditional aspects and restrictions. If we came from a city, we wanted to live in the country. If we were rural or small towners, we yearned for city excitement. All of us are now rural or small town residents in the last quarter of our lives who have had varied and successful lives and while we enjoyed that, we would go back to the 50s and very early 60s, if possible.
Present day life in Russia looks pleasant and healthy, from what I see in many different vlogs and videos, compared to life in the West.
...fear he will be replaced by someone more along the lines of Obama-Soros.
___________
That is the fervent dream of the Western oligarchs. I believe they tried to seduce Putin and failed. It sure looks like he isn’t enamored of western decadence and perhaps is not vulnerable to blackmail. So, they must destroy/replace him.
Russia is important to their New Liberal Order. It has land and resources and strategic value. The best thing that has come out of all this mess is that Eurasia seems to be coalescing as an opposing model to the Atlantic Alliance and their Pacific allies.
Multi-polar is healthier than hegemony, especially when the hegemon is decadent and self-destructive.
