WASHINGTON — California on Thursday is expected to put into effect its sweeping plan to prohibit the sale of new gasoline-powered cars by 2035, a groundbreaking move that could have major effects on the effort to fight climate change and accelerate a global transition toward electric vehicles.
“This is huge,” said Margo Oge, an electric vehicles expert who headed the Environmental Protection Agency’s transportation emissions program under Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama. “California will now be the only government in the world that mandates zero-emission vehicles. It is unique.”
The rule, issued by the California Air Resources Board, will require that 100 percent of all new cars sold in the state by 2035 be free of the fossil fuel emissions chiefly responsible for warming the planet, up from 12 percent today. It sets interim targets requiring that 35 percent of new passenger vehicles sold in the state by 2026 produce zero emissions. That would climb to 68 percent by 2030.
The restrictions are important because not only is California the largest auto market in the United States, but more than a dozen other states typically follow California’s lead when setting their own auto emissions standards.
“The climate crisis is solvable if we focus on the big, bold steps necessary to stem the tide of carbon pollution,” Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, said in a statement.

What will run out first? Will it be oil or rare earth minerals for the batteries?

Not the “Bee.”
Oh boy...

Newsflash, new auto dealer mega-malls to open just over the borders in late 2034!
Just because new ICE car sales are banned in Kali (Not that this is actually going to happen) does not allow Kali to prevent cars bought in other states to be brought in.
I predict that some time before the “Ban” reality will become impossible to ignore and the date will be pushed back, or rescinded altogether.
No matter how hard they try the eco-nuts cannot repeal reality.
That's funnier that listening to an argument between a gay and a black over who's the most "oppressed".
no problem
ca buys more expensive energy across state lines to get their emission numbers down
i hail this decision
i only wish they would do it tomorrow
the globull warming unilateral disarmists need to push their edicts harder and faster
so that the slow learners can see the catastrophic results of their decisions
I believe they already banned generators.
God just shakes his head at foolishness.
Certifiably insane people. At this point in available tech, there is no way transportation can rely on non-gasoline vehicles. Farms can’t use non-gasoline implements. Wanna fly on an electric plane? What about the massive power needed by cargo ships? Their whole economy would close down. Then a long-awaited “Big One” would wipe out the gross stupidity of libtards once and for all.
What a dumb move? All this maneuver will do is drive up the price of used cars and people will drive across the State Line and buy what they want. Not smart.
Rumor has it Newsom and John Kerry will make exceptions for private jets...
When on a crime/fire site they will have to bring in generators so the equipment can recharge! lol
Time to start a generator service company.
they are promising the jetsons
they deliver the flintstones
Good, more for the rest of us.
Restrict travel. They’re going to keep everyone on a very short leash.
Good Lord, it just means more of these scumbags moving here to Texas.
So who gets punished when Crapifornia falls short of the goal.
I would add, "Does the zero emissions target include jet fuel, which will impact commercial flights and the private jets of the elites? I'm guessing the answer to this question is, NO! Then again, we are talking Kalifornia and nothing they decide/legislate would surprise me.
I assume they won’t let people bring their post 2030 cars with them.
So about 75% of people will refuse to move to CA.
Or CA will survive on used cars like Cuba.
Good time to set up car dealerships in Arizona near the state line with California.
