I’ve fretted over them too. LOL Glad to hear they’ll have a bit of a break in that horrendous heat.

I saved pix of all your kitties and my heart still does a little lurch when I see the ones of Sugar and Ghost. Ghost wasn’t doing so well and it’s pretty much a given what happened to him. Like you, I hope someone took Sugar in and that she’s living a good life. She was such a babydoll.

Oh, and don’t forget the ‘70s versions of “Dead Girlfriend Songs”. I nominate “Run, Joey, Run” (the girl sounds like she’s 12), and “Rocky” by Austin Roberts, who created great confusion by releasing it around the same time as the movie by the same name.

I do the same thing when I’m looking through pictures. I want to go outside and call her name to see if she’d come. They all know their names.

I miss Ghost, too. He was just the best dad. I’ve never seen a male cat that was so attached to his offspring before. It was fascinating to watch him with them.

They will definitely be feistier in the cooler weather. I will be too. LOL!

Yes, Ghost was a good daddy. There are a few males who are protective like he was, even of kittens that aren’t theirs. When Murphy and Jade showed up years ago, they were maybe 6 weeks old. Cooter, who was a big boy, took charge and if any of the other cats even thought of hissing or growling at them, he was right there in a heartbeat. No one was going to mess with those two lil darlings. They slept on him until they grew too large for him to allow it.

Jack, who we lost two weeks ago to diabetes and cancer, was the same way with Lake when he showed up. They remained best buddies and Lake still seems lost without him.

I hope little Lake can find a new buddy sometime soon. I’m sure he’s very sad to lose his best protector.

I’ll tell ya, I hate Bette Midler for her smug empty headed libtardism, Barbra Streisand, even more so, still ya gotta give credit where it’s due. Those two brain dead twits each
each have got some set of pipes.

Lake is far from little now. He grew up to be a big boy. He came from Hubby’s cousin’s place next door 8 years ago. He’d followed his momma into the soybeans and got lost for almost too long. By the time he found his way out on this side, he was almost dead from starvation. He wasn’t two months old yet so he was a lil guy at the time.

He has other buddies but it isn’t the same. He still goes to the bed in the spare bedroom to look for Jack. That’s where they hung out together a lot. When he sees Jack’s not there, he goes back to the living room.

He’s nestled between Shannon and Peregrin at the moment so he’s happy enough.

Una Paloma Blanca

In a category of its own! Offhand, I can’t think of worse.
I had completely forgotten it until now...but I won’t hold that against you.

I think cats love deeper than we’ve always believed they do. They just show it differently.

Can’t believe it’s only 81 right now. I’d love to go out, but the darn mosquitoes are enjoying it too much, too. I’ve gotten used to not having bites. The summer cooked them all, I think. LOL! Are you still getting lightning bugs?

There's always the Slim Whitman version, that Rush used for his Peace Updates.

Heck, I’ve always known cats can love deeply. Dogs too. Not all are the same. Some are aloof and others are very loving.

Too bad the skeeters spoil your fun and won’t let you sit outside to enjoy a cool evening.
The numbers have been down around the house this year since it’s been so dry but there are probably plenty close to the lake. Hubby hasn’t complained nearly as much this year about being bitten.

The fireflies are gone for the year but the katydids are still out in force. We had more of them this year than we’ve had in a while. They’re almost deafening but I love it.

Before the kids all grew up and spread wings we always had cats, and dogs. We got so attached to them (the kids especially) that we transported them across the Atlantic twice, once each way. We never sought any of them out, they always found us, that is they always found one of the kids.
I always greeted the new family members the same way, “NO YOU CAN’T KEEP ‘IM!”. None of the kids ever whined or cried, and none of the critters ever left...except with kid or two. Lost some of the cats to coyotes (we’re pretty sure). At one time we had 6 living in the house at once! (Along w/2 dogs) Funny how they can all be so different. Only 1 of the cats was mine. He’d crawl in my lap, purr, roll on his back, sleep at my head. Kids named him Mr. Lucky, ‘cause they said that the first time he jumped into my lap he was lucky to not fly across the room. I was never sure if they were kidding or not. I liked that cat.

Sometime, if I remember, I’ll tell you how we got our first cat.

I like reading about yours. You’re both good folks.

I’m off to the crypt.

A very pleasant good Wednesday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country and thanks Luvie for this morning's thread.

First off yesterday at Chisolm Trail Park:

As to the question this morning, my responses were similiar to 84% of the most popular. I was the majority in all but a couple of the questions.

How's everyone doing this morning?

That’s what I thought we were talkin’ about! Lord! don’t tell me there’s more than one version out there!!!

I got a brag to make. Many years ago, I wrote an article and published it on line. The next day Rush read the whole thing in his opening segment. I was stunned. That small event had huge consequences...not for Rush, of course.

We’ve never had katydids and haven’t had crickets in years. I did hear a lonely cicada or two occasionally, but most of them probably died trying to dig out of our hard-packed scorched earth. LOL!

I’m going out to see if Peaches and Ginger are ready to come it, so I’ll get to feel the cool air for a bit anyway. Maybe I’ll get lucky and not get bitten.

I just finished my show, so think I’ll head off. I’ve been staying up way too late. See ya tomorrow!

I did go out. It had just started gently sprinkling and there was no breeze, so it was kind of humid. So I killed a roach ( ack!!), skritched Shadows tummy for a bit and came back in. LOL!

Nighty night.

You must have loved your critters a lot to take them with you overseas and bring them back.
Can’t say I’ve ever travelled that far but I did haul 12 cats to TN from NC when I moved back several years ago. THAT was an adventure in a Ryder truck. LOL

It’s been a loooooooong time since I had only 6. We currently have 27 in the house because of the coyotes around here. Fortunately they all get along well.

You’re right about them being different. They all have their own personalities, likes and dislikes, etc. Some of ours don’t like Hubby at all, some tolerate him, and a few like him and hang out with him in his room. But he loves all of them. He just doesn’t do anything as far as taking care of them. That’s all in my lap. :-)

Try to remember to tell us how you got your first cat!

Sleep well.

We have a lot of cicadas this year and always have a lot of crickets. The cicadas go to sleep right after the katydids wake up and for a brief time we have all three making a ruckus at the same time. The katydids drown out the crickets this year, there are so many.

I hope you didn’t get skeeter-bit while out there getting Peaches and Ginger in.
