Hollywood Traitors: Agents of Stalin, Allies of Hitler

I haven't read that, but I did read Hollywood Party: How Communism Seduced the American Film Industry in the 1930s and 1940s by Lloyd Billingsly. The thing that gets me is that whenever you read a reference or see a documentary that talks about the Blacklist, they always use wording like "blacklisted for alleged communist ties". For most people, the Blacklist was about hounding innocent people based on rumor. The blacklisted people were in fact, commies. Whether or not there should have been a blacklist is open to debate, but people should at least be honest about the fact that the blacklisted commies were loyal to a communist party that was in turn loyal to the USSR.

The thing they do not want to mention is that long before the studios (not the government) had a black list of people who were no longer bankable because the common American would not go see their stuff, the SAG was being run by commies who had their own "blacklist". Ask Barbara Stanwyck about it.

But Big Union keeping people who would not sign up for correct think from working, good. Business making a decision not to hire people because their name is now mud, bad.
