At least 38 people have been wounded, nine of them fatally, in shootings across Chicago so far this weekend.
Last year, over 100 people were shot over the long Fourth of July weekend, 19 of them were killed. Seeking to prevent a similar surge in violence this year, Chicago Police Supt. David Brown said residents should expect to see a heavier police presence in their neighborhoods.
In fatal attacks this weekend, a woman was killed and a gunman was among two others wounded in a shootout Friday night in Chinatown, Chicago police said.
A man and another gunman were shooting at each other about 10:50 p.m. in the 2200 block of South Wentworth Avenue, police said. A 24-year-old woman was struck in the torso and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she died due to her injuries.
A second woman, 42, was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center with a gunshot wound to her hand, police said. She was listed in good condition. One of the gunmen, a 38-year-old man, was shot in the buttocks and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was in critical condition.
Three people were shot, one fatally, in a backyard early Sunday morning in Grand Crossing on the South Side.

Chicago “clears” only 50% of their murders but half are those cases are “closed” without anyone being charged, meaning the cops know who did it but for whatever reason, can’t bring charges. Probably because last month’s murderer became last week’s homicide victim. Happens a lot in Chicongo.
I know Chicago is a big city, but I’m wondering if there are any people there that haven’t been shot at least once, (Other than maybe the elites with bodyguards.)
And all the media will focus on the dude shot by the cops after he ran after being stopped.
So give Lori Lightbrain a break. Her wife and her have a lot of other things to blame for Chicago’s crime surge ... Like Trump or Putin or the Girl Scouts.

Maybe we should do a dead pool? Make bets on how many people will be shot in Chi-town on a weekend. We could do odds. It might make a great Vegas Game. We could do shot and killed with odds. The Chi-Town Dead Pool. Better than the ponies and it happens every day, every week, like clock work. This weekend will be a great one— with maybe two dozen more by Tuesday. If no one wants to stop the killings lets at least make it a fun sport. (sar.)
