Axelrod, who served as former President Barack Obama's chief strategist, made the comments in a Wednesday statement to The New York Times. The 2024 presidential race has been a burning question for Democrats, with no clear heir to Biden and many party members skeptical of whether the president could or should run for a second term.
"If the president were not to run, it’s hard to imagine that Newsom would not be sorely tempted to enter the race," Axelrod said Wednesday.

In California it’s no secret that Pelosi’s nephew Gavin the Hair Model is planning to run for President.
Newsome’s big problem will be if Joe announces that he will run again in 2024. Directly challenging Biden will alienate the heavy hitters who back Biden and there’s more of them than people realize.
Biden is article 25’d. Headboard harris steps in and appoints newsom as VP (would he be confirmed?). Headboard gets new job as head of UN, Supreme court justice, whatever. Welcome Resident newsom.
Then gavin can stand in front of America’s house that just burnt down and smile and giggle like he did in front of a Californian house thus last year.

Yes and Newsom will be a formidable candidate. He’s young and handsome and tall (DeSantis is unfortunately short and the taller Presidential candidate always wins the popular national vote), and he has lots of Silicon Valley and Hollywood money.
He will be the candidate and he has a good chance of winning. Get ready for him. I’m in CA and so I’m used to him and his ineffectiveness and leftism (so I’m also used to Biden for the same reason).
I’ve been warning this since he “won” the recall.
He’s all they got.
And that would be the final nail in the coffin for this country.
