If Turkey pulls out of NATO then they will align with Russia, closing off the Bosporus Strait to NATO, a huge disadvantage if we go against Russia.

Under Erdogan, yes. But let’s see how the upcoming Turkish elections go. Erdogan isn’t doing so well domestically, and his main opponent is Kemal Kilicdaroglu, leader of the CHP (Republican People’s Party), Kemal Atatürk’s old party. He is more of a secularist than Erdogan, and if he follows Ataturk’s mindset he will not be so antagonistic towards the West. He has an economics background and is seen as more pragmatic than Erdogan. I guess we’ll see if he wins next year.
