China Has ‘Swarm’ Ambitions With New Drone Carrier

Officially it is just a research vessel, but China's newly unveiled drone carrier is a clear sign Beijing is rushing to deploy an autonomous swarm of unmanned devices in its push for military supremacy in the Pacific Ocean.

State media last month showed the launching of the Zhu Hai Yun – "Zhu Hai Cloud" – capable of transporting an unspecified number of flying drones as well as surface and submarine craft, and operating autonomously thanks to artificial intelligence.

The 89-metre (292-foot) ship would be operational by year-end with a top speed of 18 knots, vastly increasing China's surveillance potential of the vast Pacific area it considers its zone of influence.

"The vessel is not only an unprecedented precision tool at the frontier of marine science, but also a platform for marine disaster prevention and mitigation, seabed precision mapping, marine environment monitoring, and maritime search and rescue," Chen Dake, lab director at the firm that built the carrier, told China Daily.

I have nightmares of a US Aircraft Carrier on fire in a war with China.

I hope I'm wrong.

Jamming and one sub should solve the problem before they get close enough to cause problems.

The 89-metre (292-foot) ship would be operational by year-end with a top speed of 18 knots... They're not even up to our WWII speeds.

The Midway class carriers of WWII did 33 knots as well.

In fact, the output increase, thanks to improvements in the turbines and boilers, out-reached the steam increase by some margin, show in the progresses made there. According to this, the Midway class were able to reach still their designed fleet speed of 33 knots (61 km/h; 38 mph).
Snip...Compared to the previous Essex, they measured 901 ft or 274.3m long at the waterline and or 968 feets 295 m overall.
292 ft - 18 knots - China, 2022
901 ft - 33 knots - USA, 1945

Your image is appropriate.

They're not even up to our WWII speeds.

It is not a WW2 fleet carrier. It does not need to run at high speed into the wind to get enough air flow under the wings of heavily laden bombers to get them airborne. It does not need to be able to outrun 30+ knot Kongō-class Battle Cruisers, with 16” guns. You might as well chuckle about how the ships we used in the SpanishAmerican War had more armor.

Could any of our carriers sway it out of existence with barely a thought? Yes. But what if China’s anti-carrier missiles keep our carriers a few hundred miles offshore? Read up on the Chinese drones swarming US Navy ships off the coast of California. There is good reason to believe that any small surface ship near one of these will be lost. And given that they are relatively small, cheap to build, and man, think about the implications of China having a few dozen of them.

"Jamming and one sub should solve the problem before they get close enough to cause problems."

That assumes that China is not effectively in control of our military through extortion of the Oval Office.

It is not a WW2 fleet carrier.

I didn't say it was. I was drawing a comparison regarding
the new ships capabilities versus a ship of larger
proportions with considerably more speed.

The rest of your reply is superfluous.

Which may partly be in response to the advanced WOKE capabilities boasted by the developing liberalnation "Wokelitary," from,

allowing transgenders to serve in the military,

with Army mandatory training now including training Army personnel to know what to do in such scenarios as when a soldier who was "assigned" a biological gender at birth says he/she identifies as another gender, and lives as such in off-duty hours, but is not requesting to be treated as such while on duty, versus if such later requests to be identified as according to their chosen gender during duty hours, and/or experiences increased distress relating to his/her gender identity;

and ensuring free gender reassignment surgery for active military personnel,

and with The Pentagon Forming a Diversity and Inclusion Office,

and the Air Force being with WOKEism in creating 'LGBTQ' and 'Indigenous Nations Equality' Focus Groups,

and also authorizing the use of gender pronouns in signature blocks,

while the Army arms itself with a woke recruitment ad featuring lesbians at a gay wedding and an LGBTQ pride march,

and the CIA funds a 'cisgender millennial with anxiety disorder' campaign, and with the

Marines and Navy as well as the Air Force and Army posting messages on social media supporting gay pride and Pride Month,

while the Navy leads the way in naming a military ship after gay rights leader Harvey Milk, and (now) with a transgender veteran christening it,

along with the Navy's first all gay U.S. Navy helicopter crew,

to lower fitness standards for women

while nearly half of female soldiers are still failing the new Army Fitness Test,

yet calling for Increased Diversity and More Women in Combat,

and changing its song to be gender-neutral,

and Forcing Marines to Make Boot Camp Coed,

and feeding cadets cultural Marxist propaganda about gender and masculinity therein,

to its new diversity and inclusion operation from West Point

and for its Special Operations Command ,

while showing a rapid response readiness to engage in online combat with the likes of Tucker Carson and other such enemies

thus nuking Jesus-themed candies on an Air Force bases as well as the Pentagon ordering a company to stop making faith-based Dog Tags,

and prohibiting service members from “liking” or reposting "extremist" views on social media (depending on all the circumstances involved) as part of its prohibition against actively engaging in extremist activities,

yet allowing turbans and hijabs in the Air Force,

while working to rid the military of “extremism

such as the head of the US Space Force unit being fired and put under investigation for criticizing Critical Race Theory

And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens. (Ezra 9:6)

Another example of how slow the new ship is...

THE CUTTERS, BOATS, AND AIRCRAFT OF THE U.S. COAST GUARD
The 154-foot cutters have a speed of more than 28 knots, and are based on an existing patrol boat design from Damen Shipyards.

Too much tech in one direction (drones) opens
vulnerabilities in another direction (naval campaigns).

Once its drones are expended that ship is a sitting duck amongst sharks.

And while those guys were doing that we were doing stuff like this...

A laser can pick off a drone from afar. But if there are hundreds of drones closing in to attack, you may want a high-powered microwave.
Currently mounted on a shipping container-like box, PHASER high-powered microwaves emit radio frequencies in a conical beam from a dish.
Snip...“The fact that you can simultaneously track and immediately move to the next target to address not just a swarm, but multiple swarms, is a big advantage.”

That's just the tech we know about.
They can toot their horns, but this is nothing.

Strategy - these ships would be blown out of the water with missiles with ranges of 200 miles before the first drone could be launched.

New Navy Missiles Hit Ships 200 Miles Away

The missiles can be launched from warships and aircraft. A major upgrade to the Navy’s arsenal, the missiles can hit targets 200 miles away. They can also autonomously avoid enemy radar and incoming fire, and target a specific part of a ship to attack.

So much for drone ships.

But what if China’s anti-carrier missiles keep our carriers a few hundred miles offshore?

You DO realize that aircraft aboard carriers have ranges much more than a few hundred miles, right?

I just showed you missiles that have a 200 mile range.

Would you like to withdraw your question?
