Ditto, yes, why weren’t they destroyed as they approached?

A strong case for dereliction of duty at all command levels.

Yes, why didn’t ship commands use Phalanxes?

They’ll just keep doing it if we don’t.

I’ve actually done that before, even used a hawk call.

The beam would need to be strong enough to fry the electronics, not just disrupt the data link. That’s why I suggested 100kW or so.

But what do I know haha?

Somewhat concerning...

SHIP’S DECK LOG SHEET entries:
“MISFIRE MT51”
“MISFIRE MT51 FAULTY FIRING PIN”

That ain’t no way ta run a Navy.

Also, drone SIZE is nowhere stated.
Are these long-range UAV the size of airplanes?

Or are these something you could engage with a shotgun from the ship’s deck?

IOW, are countermeasures better being a swarm of small missiles, or a bunch of sailors shooting skeet?

We had the same problem with those sparrows. Finally sealed off all openings with 1/2” weld wire. Chicken wire wouldn’t work. They would go right through it.

Blue quail are amazing. We took our short hairs (6) down south one time. Those birds drove them dogs crazy not conveying up. We started mazing and crack corn on the roads and then just drove around. They were still hard to get

Been hunting Blue’s here in West Texas for over 60 years and I’ve learned a few tricks that make life much simpler. After about the first two weeks of season you might as well put the Pointers up. I usually just end up using one dog after that, for no better words I’ll just call it a dead bird dog. My dead bird dog is Gus, he’s half Springer Spaniel and half Lab. He stays with me and rarely misses a downed bird. I can find the live birds and Gus finds the dead ones. I feed 14 spots for deer, turkey and quail on my place and there’s always a covey or two hanging around the feeders. Where I live our quail population is really down, haven’t hunted the last 2 years. Still have some water in our ponds but the pastures are dry and brown still. We’re already having to feed the cows and the future isn’t looking good.

Well you have to be able to hit them first, ever try and shoot a bird out of the air with a rifle?

I think 3600 rounds a minute in a pattern would do the trick. The first part of hitting your target is TRYING.

Pretty expensive way to try and down a 500 dollar drone. I say you don’t try and shoot them down, you catch or disable them with a drone designed just for that. Anything that can entangle the blades will drop it and that gives us a lot of options.

Not a bad idea, but no response encourages more aggressive behavior. And really, money? We piss more than that over the bank every millisecond. Can you say Afghanistan?

A narrow beam microwave weapon does make a lot of sense. Recall that the EA-6B Prowler (the radar jammer before the EA-18 Growler) had a canopy with gold particles embedded in it to form a sort of Faraday Cage to keep the 4-man crew from getting cooked by that big emitter on the vertical stab. Always wondered if the crew wore radiation dosimeters like nuke boat crews?

Yeah, it was actually some kids flying ultralights by remote control, while wearing a Bigfoot suit, and spouting "swamp gas" from snacking too much Taco Bell.

Know what you mean about feeding. It is just like winter never stopped except for temp. Moved cows to last pasture that is not dirt and feeding every other day. Gonna start selling light calves and older cows at end of month if things don’t change. It doesn’t look good

While I think this incident is important and should be looked into, it shouldn’t be confused with the USS Nimitz “tic-tac” incident in November of 2004.

Interesting that the incident locations are close, though.
