Zelensky: Russian forces control one-fifth of Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Thursday that Russian forces now occupy about 20 percent of Ukrainian territory, almost 100 days into the war.

Zelensky spoke Thursday to Luxembourg’s legislature, saying Russian troops have invaded more than 3,600 “settlements,” but that Ukrainian forces have taken back more than 1,000 of them. He said Luxembourg’s motto, “We want to stay what we are,” is what Ukraine is currently fighting for.

You seem to be clueless as to how this conflict even began, otherwise, you would not have offered up sch an ignorant response.

It began several years before Russia ever even contemplated invading Ukraine.

Mostly, I'm sure, the ones the Russians retreated from in the north.

If you listen to Russian politicians and look at polls in Russia, the problem (that won’t go away anytime soon) is this:
Great Russian chauvinism. Like the U.S. in its earlier history had the doctrine of “Manifest Destiny,” which of course fueled the drive westward to the Pacific coast and a bit beyond. The average Russia appears to think similarly in regard to their nation.

Russia still has such an expansionistic doctrine guiding it (as it has had for the last 1000 years). In other words, Russia is somewhat like a shark that must keep moving to breathe, in that it thinks it must keep expanding to survive. Or, put another way, their only sure defense (in their minds is a continuous offense). Ask the Finns about this. Ask the Swedes. Ask any number of other nations which border Russia.

If China and Russia were to Nuke each other as you suggest, the entire world would be the losers.

Craziness

If you watch imbedded reporters in the east with live action

Versus press parades with Uke forces in western Donbas or Uke territory away from fighting

You’re watching two wars basically

Tactics behavior and reporting of results

Some of the eastern on site reporters are biased some not so much

The western reporters are a dog and pony show

Putin has the east as he said he wanted from jump street for reasons we can argue forever the justness of

He doesn’t seem to want much more

The west globalist aim seems to be to proxy it as long as possible apparently

Ironically it could give Zelensky some rope to make a deal with Putin simply because he has to

Or destroy what’s left of his army

If this ends quickly where does all that money go

?

Not much resistemce left in Donbas ...

Uke armies pretty much deployed and hurt....Ill supplied with some units refusing to fight without more heavy support

There was talk of summer offensive but too many troops have been deployed already

Only thing seems fairly certain to me is Donbas and Luhansk are in final stages of Russian takeover

Putin couldn’t care less about me. OTOH, the WEF types, who back Ukraine, have lots of plans for me.

Why would China do that, though?

Both China and Russia (rightly) view US-derived globohomo as the single biggest threat to both of them. Neither is going to fall for some dumb and obvious divide-and-conquer strategy posed by the people currently threatening them for not allowing gays to run their countries.

You hit the nail on the head. While the US and the great powers of Europe all have grown out of the dreams of empire, Russia has not. They believe they have a right to a leadership position over other nations whether those other nations want Russia to lead them or not.

Every day that this war goes on is another day that makes Soviet Russia weaker.

That's funny. I was thinking just this morning that the longer this lasts, the stronger Russia gets and the weaker the West gets.

Russia is still able to sell its commodities, just at significantly higher profits. The West, paying significantly more for its energy and other imports has its own economies damaged.

Cut off Russia from financing, insurance, and technology and other countries (particularly China) will find it increasingly profitable to become alternatives to the West in those markets as time goes by.

Power abhors a vacuum.

The United States has gotten weak and decadent.

It is hardly surprising that Russia and China are stepping into the breach.

Better give him 100 billion to his time!

Check your arithmetic!

40 billion for 20% of Ukraine. He will sell the rest for 160 billions.

Just don’t forget 10% for the Big Guy, otherwise no deal.

If we were to be true machevellian, tell China we wouldnt raise a stink if they decided to take a chunk of Russia. End result the two countries would nuke each other and we get rid of two adversaries for the price of one.

I think that the Chinese have considered this as one possible outcome for rising tensions between Russia and the West. Russia and NATO do the nuking, and Siberia lies open for the taking.

German Nazis had one or two groups that they wanted to get rid of. The Banderas are more like equal-opportunity Nazis and basically just hate everybody...

It amazes me how Bill Clinton is never blamed for being the one to take away Ukraine’s nukes.
