GOP front-runner Mastriano brings gubernatorial pitch to Kirby Park
Times-Leader ^ | 5/13/2022 | Tony Callaio

Doug Mastriano did not mince words when he addressed the gathered crowd at Kirby Park Friday afternoon.

"Pennsylvania should be the light of freedom for around the nation and the entire world," he said from under the Martz Pavilion. "So many important things happened in Pennsylvania. I'll say most of the key moments in American history."

He queried the audience, "The government derives its consent from whom?"

In unison nearly all in attendance responded, "The people."

"The consent of the people," Mastriano repeated continuing, "And we clearly did not consent to the overreach over the last few years."

He reflected on current Gov. Tom Wolf's policies over the duration of COVID-19, calling many of the stories he's heard 'heartbreaking" as he mentioned folks being denied unemployment, even though they were deemed non-essential, and then wondering how they would feed their families.

"I know growing up that every job I worked was essential for me," Mastriano reflected.

Furthermore, he pointed out that Pennsylvania became the first state to limit its governor's power during last year's primary. He was referring to the constitutional amendments made to restrict the governor's emergency powers after many found themselves displeased with how the governor's office was handling the situation. Mastriano called Wolf's policies, "confusing and conflicting.".

As he continued to highlight Pennsylvania's rich history in democracy and in establishing the nation, he reflected on Gettysburg, honoring the 50,000 lives lost there. And on the subject of the Civil War, tying into today's political climate, he said. "We never, ever want a Civil War again in our country. Never ever. We could disagree politically. Let's deal with that at the ballot box and not the ammo box."...

It's crazy out there the GOP in Columbia County up in Northeast PA going for Lou Barletta, the GOP in my county York endorsing Bill McSwain.

Doug Mastriano running circles around the competition.

He was in Berwick and Wilkes-Barre today the turf Barletta represented as a Congressman.

The trouble with Mastriano is that he is clueless about and disinterested in state issues. He’s a lousy state senator and a crook like Shapiro will run rings around him in a state like PA.

Mastriano would say that’s “The Swamp” talking IMHO.

I don’t know much about him he served for 30 years in the Army a staff officer taught at the War College in Carlisle which landed him in Pennsylvania when he retired.

My wife a Democrat in the government bureaucracy had good dealings with Mastriano when he first came into office before her retirement.

She will vote him over Shapiro.

As for President Trump this report is out tonight..

“Scoop: Trump leans towards endosing Doug Mastriano for Pa. Governor”...

I have three major problems with Mastriano:

1. He’s never worked outside government in his life.

2. His proposal to implement a government tracking program and suspend HIPAA privacy laws early in the COVID fiasco. This type of response to a crisis is perfectly consistent with the mindset of a career government hack. Those of us who remember that find his current “freedom and liberty” campaign act particularly galling.

3. The embarrassment of watching him hold himself up as a leader in the fight against the 2020 election theft — a theft that was only possible because of a stupid “no-excuse” mail-in voting process that HE HIMSELF voted into law just a year earlier.

I don’t know much else about his tenure in state government. I’ve been saying for months that none of the clowns currently serving in the PA legislature who are now running for either governor or U.S. Senator has any chance of winning in November.

You made your points.

The mainstream media wants to pin the labels on Mastriano like “election denier” or “far right” and “ultra MAGA” but what is the honest to God truth certainly not this kind of spin from the MSM on Mastriano.

Seems like a fairly decent candidate but he seems to be slightly naive.

What happens when it becomes obvious the ballot box is not working?? What happens when one political party turns hostile to the very nation it is supposed to be a part of? What happens when the opposite party becomes beholden to other forces and works in secret concert with the other to thwart the will of the people?

What is his suggestion then?

“...Let’s deal with that at the ballot box and not the ammo box.”

I prefer the latter. We can no longer live side-by-side with the lunatic sadist who want to prevent you from earning a living, just because you refuse to allow your body to be injected with HIV substances. The same group who insist children be brainwashed into believing there are 52 genders that can be changed at will. The tyrants that push destructive CRT crap and claim parents do not have a say in their children’s education.

We are long past due for another day-of-reckoning.
