A Capitol Police officer has been suspended after they fired their service weapon inside a congressional office building early Tuesday, authorities said.
The officer, who was not immediately identified, fired the weapon in the break room of the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, DC, US Capitol Police confirmed to The Post.
“The Capitol Police’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) is investigating the discharge of a USCP weapon inside a break room in the Cannon Office Building,” the agency said in a statement. “The officer has been suspended while OPR investigates the incident.”
A Capitol Police spokesperson declined to indicate whether investigators believe the discharge was accidental or how many shots were fired.
“All part of the investigation,” the spokesperson replied.
No injuries were reported.

It might not have been an accident?
I bet he was playing around with it.
I wonder if the officer’s last name is ‘Byrd’ by any chance.
The pronoun is apparently "they." You need to pay attention to these details.
Yet the capitol cop who shot and killed Ashli Babbitt walks free.
The suspension was actually for wasting ammunition since no Trump supporters were hit.
So why was he suspended? You don't get suspended for shooting an unarmed protestor without warning, why simply accidentally discharging a weapon.
I’m sure it was an accident according to the cop. Long ago when I was an IT manager, part of my team’s duties included support of police laptop computers in patrol cars and offices. One came in for replacement with a bullet hole through the screen. Purely an accident, according to the cop. We often received complaints about the software and hardware, and could understand how an accident like that could occur. Better it than us.
Lt. Byrd?
In his defense he thought he saw an unarmed female stolen election protestor.....
It might be the same guy, he previously left his gun in a bathroom.
Can’t be, he leaves his in the bathroom, not the break room.
Mall cops/security guards is the best they can be
For the life of me, I can’t understand how a trained professional with a weapon can have an accidental discharge-in the break room, of all places?🙄
Detective Gamble with a Desk Pop
Did he murder an unarmed white woman?
They? Is this one of those non-binary police officers? Multiple-Personality disorder cop?
How about just writing it "A Capitol Police officer has been suspended after firing a service weapon inside a congressional office building...
That jumped out at me as well had to read it 3 times, I thought is there more than one or are they just trying to avoid using a pronoun?
English lit is a lost art.
> The pronoun is apparently “they.” <
Good catch. Either there really was more than one reckless shooter or the author was too lazy to phrase the sentence properly.
I’m guessing it’s the latter case.
Good point.
