Luttig testified in the sentencing portion of the trial, providing testimony supporting imposition of the death penalty.
Beazley was convicted, condemned to death, and eventually executed after twice appealing to the Supreme Court, where Justices Antonin Scalia, David Souter, and Clarence Thomas recused themselves because of past associations with Luttig.
Scalia recused himself because Luttig had clerked for him, and Justices David Souter and Clarence Thomas recused themselves because Luttig led the George H. W. Bush Administration's efforts to gain the Senate's confirmation for them.
Fewer still understand why former President Donald Trump and Republicans persist in their long-disproven claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen. Much less why they are obsessed about making the 2024 race a referendum on the "stolen" election of 2020, which even they know was not stolen.
January 6 was never about a stolen election or even about actual voting fraud. It was always and only about an election that Trump lost fair and square.

“Republicans, in particular,” wrote Luttig, “should vote to confirm Judge Jackson.”

LOL! I’ve seen this “argument” from Leftists before. The Republicans plan to stop any future steals with election integrity laws. Obviously stopping Democrat steals is stealing you see. Democrats are supposed to win every time by any means necessary. So stopping it is therefore stealing.

Good post. The Constitution clearly specifies that the State Legislatures determine how Presidential elections are to be conducted in their States. Judge Luttig and others want to pretend this incontrovertible FACT is just some old “independent state legislature doctrine” as if it were one among several.
But this begs the question: Which State Legislatures passed anything to disrupt or delay the Electoral College proceedings, or appointed different slates of electors, by Jan 6, 2021? I don’t recall there being any, much less enough to have changed the outcome. Guliani tried to get some of them to act, but they all wimped.
