Joe Manchin: 2024 Democratic savior?
The hill ^ | 04/27/2022 | JOE CONCHA

At a time when President Biden is at 33 percent approval while Congress sits at 21 percent, there’s one politician who is seeing his numbers rise briskly: Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.).

Overall, 57 percent of West Virginia voters approve of Manchin’s performance in the Mountain State. That’s a 17-point jump since Joe Biden took office in early 2021. No U.S. senator has seen a bigger increase in support than Manchin. More notably, the former governor has doubled his approval ratings among West Virginia Republicans, with a whopping 69 percent approving of his performance. For context, Biden’s approval in the state sits at 18 percent.

I’ve been saying for months, ever since Manchin stood up against Biden’s agenda, that he will run as “the moderate, sane Democrat alternative” in 2024. He’s no genius but you don’t have to be to see the Dems are screwed if they nominate someone from the woke left.

How does Joe Manchin realistically compete for the Democrat nomination, when he’s so out of touch with the liberal radical base of the party?

I wonder about all this speculation about 2024, because, officially, aren’t we supposed to assume that Biden and Kamala will be running for reelection???

They haven’t even touched on the millions sent to his campaign war chest from conservatives all around the country feeling they have a voice in Manchin over their own useless RINOS.

You hit the nail on the head. Manchin might be formidable candidate in a *general* election, but he has no prayer in the Democratic primary where most of the base despises him and everything he stands for.

Democrats don’t really have Primaries. They just pick whomever they want. Biden was getting crushed and they made everyone else drop out.

Completely agree. He’s be a strong opponent in the general election, but he’ll meet way too much resistance in the primary from the liberals and progressives.

Wait a minute... am I missing something? So more Republicans approve of his performance that D's and I's do combined?

It is amusing to me that The Hill has gotten rid of their comments feature. Good for them.

The only reason I ever clicked on that site is to see the communists spew their lockstep, addled-brain depraved reactions to some story.

My guess is that there are a lot more “Never Manchin” people in the Democrat party than there are “Never Trumpers” in the GOP. They HATE Joe Manchin.

But in a state that went 69% for trump in 2020, and that is electing Republicans to most statewide offices, don’t the voters ever stop to think how much it weakens Republicans and strengthens the Dims to have senator caucusing with the Dims.

If Manchin were not in the Dim party, Republicans would have a majority in the senate. The WV voters are acting like Arkansas voters who elected Pryors, an old Dim party family in the state, to the senate for years after the state had become conservative.

Forget those old Dims and elect conservatives.

“They haven’t even touched on the millions sent to his campaign war chest from conservatives all around the country feeling they have a voice in Manchin over their own useless RINOS.”

A Manchin-Gabbard ticket might give the GOP a run for it’s money, but there’s no chance the nutsos of the Dem party would allow it to happen.

True. But like the Daily Beast TheHill people got sick of being savaged so often by right-wingers. A lot of threads were brutal to the lefties. So away goes free speech. I detect a pattern.

IDK about “officially” but I personally assume neither Biden nor Harris will be the democrat candidate. Manchin seems like a rational choice for them, but then they have never much cared about rationality.

Agreed. A Manchin - Gabbard ticket is closer to a conservative ticket than the established republican candidates.

Forget conservative - if the parties could even come up with candidates who have common sense, it would be a big step in the right direction!
