Surprise Surge for Barnette in Pennsylvania Senate Primary
NewsMax ^ | 4/25/2022 | John Gizzi

Ten days after a Trafalgar Poll showed Kathy Barnette running an unusually close third in the Republican primary for U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, talk and support have been mounting for the TV commentator whom few — if any — had given a chance against two multimillionaire front-runners.

Last week, Sen. Joni Ernst issued a surprise endorsement for Barnette — one of two women in the six-candidate primary for the seat of retiring GOP Sen. Pat Toomey and the only contender who is Black. Iowa Republican Ernst, vice-chairman of the Senate Republican Conference and a conservative stalwart, is considered a promising Republican office-holder.

Other major endorsements are expected to come Barnette's way before the primary May 17.

Trafalgar showed celebrity Dr. Mehmet Oz, who recently secured Donald Trump's endorsement, leading among likely voters with 22.7%, followed by hedge fund executive David McCormick with 19.7%, and Barnette with 18.4%.

"And those two have each spent at least $18 million of their own money to become known, and I've spent $2 million — almost all of it from small donations," Barnette told Newsmax.

Trump's endorsement of Oz notwithstanding, McCormick, Barnette, and four other Republican hopefuls are all campaigning as strong supporters of the 45th president.

More than one Republican activist from the Keystone State who spoke to Newsmax believes that the increasingly negative media salvos McCormick and Oz have launched against one another have led primary voters to start considering a third candidate.

"They're two A-level candidates and they are beating the c**p out of each other," said one veteran GOP activist from Erie County who requested anonymity. "Both are conservatives, but flunk certain saliva tests. Barnette has attitude and evangelicals, plus a grassroots network that she has cobbled together through two years of hard work in the trenches."

Barnette is the best candidate here.

Does Pennsylvania have a runoff?

Kathy has my vote, unless Jeff Bartos is doing better in the polls on election day. Two phenomenal candidates. Dave and Mehmet have zero chance of getting my vote.
BTW, Kathy crushed the competition in a poll at the Pa Leadership Conference. Maybe Pa is in for a very happy shock!

I am not seeing any information to indicate they have a runoff - the plurality wins it appears.

I heard her on the radio and liked her A LOT. I hope she wins - unfortunately I can’t vote for her.

I can’t, either. Not in PA.

I hope she wins. I’m tired of RINOs being an alternative to Democrats when they’re basically the same thing.

Another FReeper pointed to a poor choice related to supporting a RINO or Rat. That unfortunately happens. But it’s the pattern of choices that matter.

She’s a great candidate who would almost certainly get her ass kicked in November.

Statewide elections in Pennsylvania are won and lost in the suburbs of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Barnette is from suburban Philadelphia — and LOST the only race she ran for elected office there (for Congress in 2020).

Barnette is the best candidate here.

I've been all along the fence on this race since Parnell dropped out, but I'll say I'm going to vote in the primary for whoever stands the best chance at beating Fetterman, who is a bigger threat to America than Mehmet Oz could ever hope to be. I'm heartened by a late surge by Barnette. It would be great for some of the also-rans to put their integrity before their ego and line up behind her so she could beat the two big money candidates. This is the week for it to happen.

Not entirely a fair assessment. PA-4, where Barnette ran, was a deliberately Demonrat-gerrymandered seat illegally and unconstitutionally drawn by the criminal PA Demonrat Supreme Court. Despite that, she outperformed the 2018 GOP nominee by 4%. That’s not even counting the tons of election fraud that occurred there.

Fetterman is a triple-A nutjob. Looks like a cross between a Cro-Magnon lunatic and Ming the Merciless, psychotic and evil. Any sane Republican with a pulse should beat this thug.

It’s tough to compare results between 2018 and 2020. 2018 was a midterm election with more energy among Democrats across the nation, while 2020 was a presidential election year with higher turnout overall.

One source I found online says the district has a D+9 registration profile. Barnette still lost by almost 20 points.

She did well enough as an underfunded candidate in a Dem-fixed seat in a year and state in which considerable election fraud occurred. Why not support an actual Conservative candidate this time instead of some whitebread rich guy trying to buy the nomination or a celebrity phony from the Oprah Winfrey wing of the GOP ? The choice could not be more clear.

If I could vote in the PA primaries I’d support Barnette. I just have no illusions about her chances of winning in this state.

RepublicNs who won statewide races in PA have the distinction of being some of the most unimpressive people ever to hold public office. We’re talking about an election to replace PAT TOOMEY, for heaven’s sake.
