They fought like Tigers," wrote a CIA officer who helped train the Cuban freedom-fighters who landed at The Bay of Pigs 61 years ago this week... "But their fight was doomed before the first man hit the beach."
That CIA man, Grayston Lynch, knew something about fighting -- and about long odds. He carried scars from Omaha Beach, The Battle of the Bulge and Korea's Heartbreak Ridge. But in those battles, Lynch and his band of brothers could count on the support of their own chief executive.
At the Bay of Pigs, Lynch and his band of Cuban brothers learned -- first in speechless shock and finally in burning rage -- that their most powerful enemies were not Castro's Soviet-armed and led soldiers massing in Santa Clara, Cuba, but the Ivy League's Best and Brightest dithering in Washington.
Lynch trained, in his own words, ''brave boys most of whom had never before fired a shot in anger." Short on battle experience, yes, but they fairly burst with what Bonaparte and George Patton valued most in a soldier -- morale. They'd seen the face of Castro/Communism point-blank: stealing, lying, jailing, poisoning minds, murdering.
They'd heard the chilling "Fuego!" as Castro and Che's firing squads murdered thousands of brave countrymen. More importantly, they heard the "Viva Cuba Libre!" from the bound and blindfolded patriots, right before the bullets ripped them apart. They set their jaws and resolved to smash this murderous barbarism that was ravaging their homeland. And they went at it with a vengeance.

No air cover—repeated during the last days in Afghanistan.
Sadly the way America. Has fought every war since
Permission to fire. Denied
Such insanity. And shame
My father’s side of the family is Hungarian. My mother’s side is Czech.
The people were promised help by the CIA if they rose up against the USSR and the rug was pulled out from under them when the bullets started to fly.
Our nation’s intelligence services have been a disservice to the world.
They will burn in hell for their devious disregard of human life, and for their false promises.
My closest friends were Cubans who escaped with their four sons.
They told me of incredible atrocities.
Our CIA let this happen.
BTTT
Corrupt rotten "elite" making horrible decisions.
Kennedy never got the hatred he deserved for what he did.
Made up almost entirely of Northeastern "elite". It seems their decisions always result in more bloodshed.
After watching the retreats after the losses in Iraq and Afghanistan, I don’t know why anyone in other countries would trust the word of American politicians or operators.
You do know that Kennedy was elected through the same sort of election fraud that put the idiot Joe Biden into power.
Corruption in our election process has long been a serious problem, and it has caused massive amounts of bloodshed as a result.
Eisenhower's plan was to liberate Cuba, and if Nixon had not been cheated out of the election, Cuba would have been free and much death and suffering would have been avoided.
A lot of people don't realize that the Cuban Missile crises was a direct result of Kennedy botching the invasion.
A man who was there on a carrier said the pilots were in the jets warming up the engines to take off. The order never came.
The CIA was founded via Operation Paperclip by unrepentant nazi intelligence officers whose fascist beliefs permeated the culture of that organization. That belief system still exists to this very day. Once you understand this, everything they’ve done over the past half century start to make sense in its own ugly way.
Sure, sure, but for all your attacks, just exactly what were your contributions to our country?
Bay of the Pigs was one of the worst disasters in US history. It basically broke the myth of US invincibility and all kind of enemies came out of the woodworks afterwards, Why not? The US will not take care about them.
The “plausible deniability” was a canard. Everybody in the world saw US attacking Cuba and The mighty US was defeated!
US has to either avoid the war or go full might in and win.
Getting tangled in policing operations or sending inferior force should be out or the table!
Trying to make it about me? I don't bother with arguments in which someone tries to make me the issue rather than the actual topic.
This is a combination of tu quoque and ad hominem argument and I try to avoid engaging in logical fallacies.
Also, I don't want to talk about my contributions (and in my thinking they were quite valuable) to our country because this would help identify me, and I already know what happens when people know who you are and where you live.
I don't know if you've ever dealt with liberal retaliation, but I have, and I would rather not go through that sort of trouble again.
I have spoken to Sailors on Navy ships which were supposed to provide fire support and other support. They have told me they were ordered to "stand down" and they listened in despair to the radio broadcasts from the Cubans pleading for help while they were getting destroyed by Castro's Airforce and artillery.
Kennedy should have been impeached for that horrible thing he did.
I have long wondered if his assassination was Karma for what he did.
Word!
The Wikipedia article on Operation Paperclip was largely sanitized, but this exposes much: https://www.thelibertybeacon.com/operation-paperclip-case-file-the-cia-and-the-nazis/
You’re right. It DOES explain a lot.
