A law in the works in the California Assembly would create a four-day workweek for companies with more than 500 employees.
Assembly Bill 2932 would shorten the standard workweek from 40 hours a week to just 32 hours. Companies would not be able to reduce how much you earn.
Supporters say it would lead to more productive employees. Meanwhile, opponents, including the California Chamber of Commerce, say it would increase labor costs and kill job growth at a time when businesses are recovering from the pandemic and also face higher prices for supplies.
Assemblymembers Cristina Garcia, (D) Bell Gardens and Evan Low, (D) Campbell co-authored the bill.
The bill is still in its first steps and still needs to be voted on by the Assembly.
So then they’ll suck more money from their paychecks...LOL. Suckers.
Genius why not lower to 8?
And when they are forced to hire and after YOU train them...you'll be forced out.
Why not 32 hours one week alternating with a second week of 24 hours?
Do it, California, we want you to.
ROFLMAO Way to make sure all the tech industry still in Silicon Valley moves to a different state. What Morons.
Are there even any businesses left in CA?
or raise it to 90
A lot of part-timers will be reclassified as full-time...
So the bill says that the companies must pay the employees the same for 32 hours as they received for 40 hours, and that they cannot reduce the hourly rate for existing employees. What this will mean is that companies will hire new employees at the old hourly rate (thus paying 32 hours pay for 32 hours work) and lay off the old employees that are receiving the 40 hours pay for 32 hours work. In fact, they may just hire 2 people at 24 hours per week each at the old rate - since it is less than 30 hours, they would not have to provide health benefits and would actually save money while getting an extra 8 hours a week of productivity...
They'll be lucky to get 8 hours a week of actual work from the liberals.
And a shortened paycheck to 32 hours?
I like it.
There used to be a 6-day work week.
I would prefer 4 days, even if they are 10-hour days. Much better work/life balance.
These sadistic malicious sac scum bags must snort cocain all day to be able to come up with their infinite number of ways to screw their constituents imho.
Why work at all? Everything is free under Communism, except of course the people.
Honestly most people waste a ton of time at work. The question is will people still continue to waste time or will they be more productive.
I work a mandatory 5 tens and will probably soon be 6 tens or twelves(border patrol). I work nights and get home around 8 am. I normally get Sunday and Monday night off. After I get home from work on Sunday morning I go to church. That really just leaves me with one day to take care of everything else and I am burned out.
I don’t know if working 32 hours is the answer but a four day week would probably be a lot better for people.
This is going to be good. CA brings in indolent, non-productive individuals who live off the pay of the productive ones. CA allows their underclass to steal up to $1000 at one time. CA mandates no gas cars. CA plans to take money from productive people of a light skin shade and give it to non-productive people of a lesser skin reflectance because they blame the light ones for their failure.
How’s that going to work out?
Yeah that’s going to help the California economy. /sarc
Sure. If they take a 20pct pay cut, on par with the less work hours, go for it!
I’m trying to figure out what kind of mindset would be OK with the government interfering in business at this level.
Are you merely a two bit leftist? Stupid? Or just extraordinarily selfish? Or is there a less damning rationale behind your thought process
