Russia never tried to take, nor destroy, Kviv. They partially surrounded it, as a feint (and threat), to keep reinforcements away from the East.
Russias goal is “de-NAZIfication and surrender the East, and Ukraine must remain neutral.” Those were Russia’s original goals, as stated publicly in a speech by Putin about 3 days before the invasion.
Russia knows land wars. Many facets to their strategy. Feints, false build ups and attacks, encirclement...stuff the West forgot.
Russia is winning, no doubt, and will get their way. Only question is how many will die before Ukraine accepts it.
Ukraine—Zelensky—is ready for direct talks...and negotiated surrender of the East and South. You know who hates that, doesn’t want it?
The US.
So, all this is about getting Zelinsky’s signature on a piece of paper? Brilliant! Why bother with regime change, and all the trouble of a puppet state, when you can have that sort of concrete guarantee for all the ages.
Bump
That’s as retarded as Putin calling on the Ukrainian Army to remove Zelenskyy. Which did not happen so Putin made a move to take Kyiv.
Putin, the master strategist thought it a good idea to fake encircling Kyiv so he could then take those very troops and move them to the East and the Ukrainians can now do the same.
Your retarded idea only makes a little sense if Putin kept troops around Kyiv thereby tying down Ukrainian troops there.
That’s the point. He didn’t go “just to take their oil and gas”.
He had no interest in taking the region until oil&gas were discovered there.
