Ukraine's defence ministry says another Russian general, Lt Gen Yakov Rezantsev, was killed in a strike near the southern city of Kherson.
Rezantsev was the commander of Russia's 49th combined army.
A western official said he was the seventh general to die in Ukraine, and the second lieutenant general - the highest rank officer reportedly killed.
It is thought that low morale among Russian troops has forced senior officers closer to the front line.
In a conversation intercepted by the Ukrainian military, a Russian soldier complained that Rezantsev had claimed the war would be over within hours, just four days after it began.
Ukrainian media reported on Friday that the general was killed at the Chornobaivka airbase near Kherson, which Russia is using as a command post and has been attacked by Ukraine's military several times.
Another lieutenant general, Andrei Mordvichev, was reportedly killed by a Ukrainian strike on the same base.

a.k.a. Yakov Smirnoff.
7 generals dead in one month... That must be a record of some sort.
What an Invasion!
In memory of all the kids that this monster has killed. or caused pain and anguish to, I would pray that the SOB was evaporated and not simply killed. Let there be nothing left to bury. Mr Puttins day is coming soon too I suspect!
Victory Day Parade will be bleak and sombre this year.
They put on a nice parade. Bogged down or defeat will show it to be only
a propaganda ego trip. Russian Grunts have no dog in this fight as Ukraine is not
Nazi Germany. Maybe just nazi with a small “n”.
In the 21st Century...yes.
I’d change my name if it was Yakoff.
Said by an American who didn’t bat an eye while we killed afghan men women and children for 20 years. Let’s not forget the half a million Iraqi children we starved to death in between Iraq wars. But man that Putin is so bad. It’s like he was forcing us to get clot shots the past year and a half .
Wow. You pack an awful lot of American hate into your one paragraph note.
Russia has been pretty much at peace for a long time, and I am sure that the same rules of peacetime promotion apply even in Russa. There is always a lot of dead wood among senior levels of the military to clear out before you get competent combat leadership.
One does it intentionally, the other spends billions more not to.
Not your best day
What a load of crap. Go whine to your associates in Boston who lap up the crap you exude
Enough with your dem self flagellation
Please return to the underground
I believe everything the Ukraine Defense Ministry says. 🤣
There is a You Tube video of a large aircraft operated by the Brit military. It is crammed full of people working at their computers listening to Russian transmissions. The Russian military is using old radio technology that is easily monitored. The plane can then tell Ukraine who dispatches a drone to precision locate the target for another armed drone to take out.
There was mention of a ham radio operator intercepting Russian radio Traffic. There is also a YouTube video clearly showing his receivers and military traffic reception . Some is at a very low level with enlisted ranks complaining in Russian to each other.
Given the archaic nature of Russian communications, listening and locating is apparently a piece of cake.
You must identify as a Putin faggot.
Well, believe this....... Ukraine captured in tact 100 deserted Russian Tanks.
Ukraine now has more operational tanks than before the war began
IIRC, one American officer referred to the dead wood as "perfumed princes". Probably includes most of the 'woke' crew at the Pentagon...
