I’m assuming we would as well. Unfortunately, our greatest existential threat comes from within, and they have access to those weapons. That complicates matters.

We have said the exact same thing.

No they won’t, for the same reason they never did during the cold war. Mutually Assured Destruction, the counterstrike would turn large swaths of Russia into radioactive glass parking lots. And despite all Putin’s bluster, I have a feeling him and his inner circle kind of enjoy being alive. The ONLY way they would use Nukes is if they had nothing left to lose, it was game over, a foreign army was at the gates of Moscow and Russia was gone one way or the other anyway. But he’s not going to use Nukes just because he’s being embarassed in Ukraine or NATO is being mean to him or whatever.
We have similar weapons but have faced resistance from anti-nuke Europeans in staging them in the region. Russia, on the other hand, with a military doctrine of "escalate to de-escalate" seems to be much more willing to keep the option of using these weapons open and not just as a last resort.

Threatened by what or who? By the US, by NATO, by the thought of not being able to conquer a much smaller and weaker country and having your legacy be as ridiculous as Bidens?
Well, who wouldn’t?

Russians are not Islamic suicide bombers. They fool no one with this bluffing crap. “We’ll do it. We’ll do it. We’ll double dare do it.”
The little huffing and puffing blowhard does not actually launch nukes all by his lonesome. It is extremely doubtful all the others in Russia that have to be part of any nuclear use would let the demented rabid dog destroy their coubtry.
Russians do not think like liberal MSM and DNC people. Anything is on the table.
As would any nuclear armed nation which is why it's insane to think that two nuclear armed nations can have a "conventional arms only" war with each other.
