POLL: Gibbons, Mandel lead Ohio GOP Senate primary field
The Hill ^ | March 8 | BY TAL AXELROD

Mike Gibbons and Josh Mandel lead the Ohio GOP Senate primary field as Republicans battle for the chance to run for the seat being vacated by Sen. Rob Portman (R), according to a poll released Tuesday.

The Fox News poll shows Gibbons, an investment banker, leading the field with 22 percent support among GOP primary voters. Mandel, a former state treasurer, trails just behind with 20 percent, a difference that falls within the survey’s margin of error. “Hillbilly Elegy” author JD Vance is in third with 11 percent, followed by former Ohio GOP Chair Jane Timken at 9 percent and state Sen. Matt Dolan at 7 percent.

In a sign of how in flux the primary remains, 24 percent of primary voters said they remain undecided.

The poll is the latest in a string of surveys showing Gibbons slingshotting to the top of the field. After being stuck in the middle of the field for months, Gibbons surged to the lead in a The Hill/Emerson College poll released last month and an internal poll conducted by a pro-Vance super PAC released earlier this month.

Gibbons’s polling spike is likely in part due to an advertising blitz that he’s largely funded with millions of his own money.

Wasn’t there an article the other day, somewhere, that had Vance doing quite well?

Is he calling out Industrial Scale Voter Fraud in 2020? If he isn’t saying loud at every event that the 2020 election was rigged I could care less about Mike Gibbons.

I’ll go with either of these guys now that my guy Vance may not be the flavor of the month/primary. His opinions of Trump before 2016 didn’t help him.

I believe that is why Vance isn’t soaring in the polls. His past is coming back to bite him. The commercials of him back in 2016 are devastating.

I like Mandell.

I’m supporting Mandel, too. Vance is clearly a Decepticon, and I don’t see this Gibbons guy as having any track record at all. With no experience in any public office, McConnell would lead him around by the nose.

I don’t think either of them have the look of a winner. Let’s hope Democrats have so pissed in the public drinking water that it doesn’t matter.

Ryan may irk the BLM and Antifa wing to the point that they fail to vote.

Vance has had a lot of free publicity from interviews on conservative talk radio. Doesn’t seem to have helped him much. I guess people are doing their homework and researching his background.

Ever since SOS John Husted required the purging of dead & dormant voters off the voter rolls, The Democrat machines of Cuyahoga, Lorain & Mahoning Counties have been unable to manufacture enough votes to get even ONE Democrat elected state wide. There is only one Democrat that holds any state elected office & that is Sherrod Browne of the US Senate & his time is uo in the next Senatorial Cycle.

Ohio’s elections are solid. You can vote in person a few weeks early or by mail, but MUST show ID & by mail list a signature & either the last 4 digits of your SS# or your full DL or State ID #.

When Democrats can’t cheat, they can’t win!

Ohio is a Republican state. Solid! Trump took it by almost 10% points BOTH times.

I’ll vote for whomever is the standard bearer. I’m leaning Gibbons or Mandel. Both are form Northeast Ohio & seem like solid guys. Mandel dropped out against Brown in the last go around due to a personal matter. Unspecified Health issues with his then wife. They later divorced. He would have likely won.

I’m liking that both my choices are leading. As for run to the center, why? Ohio is solid red. It will be that way until they figure out how to let the dead vote Democrat again.

The Republican nominee will win in Ohio. We have to find who is truly the farthest right. Right now that is either Mandel or Gibbons. Gibbons is a wealthy no nonsense businessman. Mandel is a good, solid right winger. He did a good job at the state level & would have beaten Sherrod Brown had he not dropped out last minute due to his wife’s health.

Wow, Mandel was a Class A jerk at the Friday night debate. Totally bush league performance.

Mandel was such a punk. It was awful. Trump needs to stay far away from that guy.
